I knew the PC Police would show up. I just didn't know when.

It's not about being PC. It's being human.

"Those people"

I mean really, what kind of garbage is that?

The entire country of Haiti should be dissolved. It's is nothing but destitution led by corruption. The problem is, people still exist, and I'm sure no government actually wants the land since extreme destitution exists right now and it would be crippling expensive to actually change the situation. (if at all possible)

Not to mention they are in the front lines for hurricane season, bad location for earthquakes and their buildings are not terribly sound to begin with.

Haiti is really in a cycle of poverty and destitution that it would be hard for them to pull themselves out of without major intervention.

These people? Or how about just "them?" Which one will cause you to stop having a **** fit?

This isn't the world's homeless shelter. I'm all for sending help and setting up a better government, though.

What's pathetic is the U.S. is now pretty much the de facto Government there.

They need a reboot.

This country we live in...ever have a history lesson?

Maybe this will be a good starting place:

The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

This still isn't the world's homeless shelter - as in everyone can't get in. That's what I mean.

Like it or not, there's probably going to be several thousand of them headed here and to other countries legally. There's just simply no infrastructure left standing or functioning in that country to help all these people. I get the impression that people here in the states don't realize how catastrophic this earthquake actually is. We see pictures of a few buildings at a time, we see live reports from reporters standing in front of trees, or a ruined car or building, we don't get the the chance to actually observe the totality of it since we aren't there.

i was watching some on the news last night. a man was in a hospital, what was left of it, with a dying daughter and no doctor, nurse, aide, anyone around to help. he said he can't even try to mourn the loss of the rest of his family who's died because he's watching his daughter die in his arms.

what if that were someone you knew? why does some fictional barrier have to come up now? these people need help and the quake compounded what little infrastructure they had - so it's going to be slow coming.

at a time like this i'd be embarassed if i was worried about the price tag of helping another human being.

we've had our disagreements before in the past DIAF, but i'm with you on this one. let's figure it out as best we can and help, as best we can.

After watching footage almost all day I agree with you.
