Houston Texans - battleredblog.com (SBNATION)

http://www.battleredblog.com/2014/10/3/6900263/three-and-out-useless-predictions-for-texans-cowboys

1. As a Texans fan, my single greatest concern in this game is Houston stopping DeMarco Murray. He and the Cowboys' offensive line have been outstanding this season, and that strength just so happens to coincide with Houston's greatest defensive weakness. Ryan Pickett looked to be a decent addition to the run defense in limited action last week, the Texans' tackling overall has been worlds better this season than in the last several years, Brian Cushing is rounding into form, and J.J. Watt is playing at a level at which men only dare to dream, but I still think the Cowboys get the better of the matchup on the ground. By a lot. Put Murray down for 127 yards rushing and one touchdown.

2. The Cowboys' defense, on the other hand, has been much better than the catastrophically bad unit most pundits expected to see this season. That's not to say Dallas' defense is good; it's not. They can be had, and I do expect the Texans to put together some good drives on the backs of DeAndre Hopkins (he'll find the end zone again on Sunday), Andre Johnson (he's not dead yet; pencil him in for another 83 yards receiving), and Arian Foster (last week was an anomaly against a good Buffalo defense; Arian gets back on track this week with 89 rushing yards and a TD).

3. Tony Romo will throw an interception to Johnathan Joseph. Unfortunately, he will also throw two TDs (Dez Bryant and Jason Witten). I foresee Romo taking a handful of shots down the field throughout the game as the Texans stack the box to stop Murray. In some ways, the Romo-Murray combination will remind you of what the Giants' Eli Manning and Rashad Jennings did to the Texans in Week Three. Except this will be worse, because there will be images of Jerry Jones on your television interspersed throughout the broadcast.

PUT YOUR NAME ON IT: I hate myself for this. Truly, I do. I believe this is going to be a bad day at the office for your Houston Texans. Thanks to the excellence of the Cowboys' offensive line, DeMarco Murray will gash the Texans all afternoon. Unless Jason Garrett outsmarts himself (a legitimate possibility, by the way, and one that gives me hope), the Cowboys' offense will carry the water for a below average defense, and that'll be enough for Dallas to carry the day. Texans 17, Cowboys 27.

As to JJ Watt:

How will the offensive line handle Texans defensive end J.J. Watt?

DF: “I worked the Giants win over the Texans earlier this season. The Giants ran the heck out of the ball. Eli Manning rolled out away from Watt just about every time and changed the release point on his passes. The Cowboys have a road map.”

Smith on Watt directly...and on the other side, Free with a tight end chip.

Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick likes to get rid of the ball quickly when he is in the pocket. What he is trying to accomplish here is to protect his offensive line, which tends to struggle in the ability to secure its blocks.

It’s an offensive line that has more size than athletic ability, and there will be snaps where you see them having trouble moving their feet. You will see them give up pressure because of this. What I have also noticed about this offensive line, especially on their left side, is that tackle Duane Brown plays very soft in his pass sets. He plays so soft that there are plays where you see Fitzpatrick having to not only throw over the top of an oncoming rusher, but also Brown -- who has been into driven in his lap.

Brown is not the only player to struggle on this line. Guard Ben Jones has a very hard time adjusting to a rusher that plays with any type of quickness. The more movement he has to face, the harder it is for him to play with any type of balance, and he should be tested often in this game. Two weeks ago, the Giants were able to harass Fitzpatrick in the pocket, forcing him into completing less that 59 percent of his passes and forcing three interceptions -- which by far was his worse performance of the season.

Through four games this season this Cowboys defensive line has struggled to get sacks, but their pressure has been consistent. For them to win this game they will need to take a page out of that Giants game plan and knock Ryan Fitzpatrick around to the point he does not feel comfortable in the pocket at all.

If this is in fact, exploitable, then both statistics and point differences between the two teams will separate in the advantage of Dallas.

If Dallas is able to mainly stay away from 3rd and long situations, then it will be able to counter the explosive rush and hurt Texan attempts to crowd the box with a safety presence.

Hope they dial up the blitz a little bit vs Fitzpatrick. He's not very elusive. I think we could force him into some mistakes or at least rattle him a bit.
