Well, it makes sense to replace a higher priced player for a cheaper player that you control for a longer period of time, provided that the play of the cheaper player is equal to or better than the higher priced player.

Agreed, if the player is better. In none of the situations mentioned is there a better, cheaper player....just a cheaper player.

he was on the street.....we were a week into FA and he was unsigned, he wasn't on the Raiders any more......they chose Trent Richardson over him

if we had given Turbin or CMichael the carries DMC got they would have got the same measley 1000 yards and no one would be clamoring to bring them back either...our OL is that good...it just took a while for them to adjust to McFadden's limitations

When 1000 yards rushing is actually deemed "measly" by NFL standards, you will have a point. Until then, this skewed opinion will be relevant only in your own mind. McFadden will be a major contributor this season regardless of your opinion of him.

When you look at the current roster, there is a tight squeeze at several positions. Running back, safety, tight end are three that come immediately to mind. Let's look at who is available at those positions.

Running back
  1. Ezekiel Elliott
  2. Alfred Morris
  3. Darren McFadden
  4. Darius Jackson
  5. Lance Dunbar
This is quite the squeeze. Dallas kept 4 RBs last year, in large part because there wasn't a clear #1 back. But in prior years, when Murray was looked on as the clear #1 guy, they tended to keep just 3. Now, Elliott is a rookie, but he's already emerged as the clear #1 back.

So who do you keep behind him? This is where Darius Jackson comes into play as our first bubble player. If you keep Jackson, you have a very cheap RB for 4 seasons, whereas McFadden and Dunbar are only signed for 1 year, and Morris for 2.

Now, both McFadden and Morris have put up multiple 1,000 yard seasons and been lead backs. While Jackson hasn't done squat. And even if he runs well in pre-season, will that mean much? Remember Phillip Tanner? He was a beast in pre-season, but worthless when the games counted.

Nevertheless, if Jackson has it, he could work himself into the #2 role and make both McFadden and Morris expendable. McFadden, of course, costs nothing to cut this year, so he's the easier target. Yet he also produced a lot better than Morris last year. Morris would cost a fair chunk of dead money to cut.

The ideal outcome? Jackson turns out to be great as a backup, allowing Dallas to trade or cut McFadden this year, and Morris next year.

I would love for them to keep three if they need talent elsewhere. I would keep Zeke, Morris and Jackson. The caveat is that if Dunbar does come back strong he gives you a good option in the passing game. I don't know who else does this. <obviously wishing McFadden well, but don't want them investing in him much longer>

A couple posters already alluded to it but I predict that the usual round of gut wrenching and frustrating injuries are going to make many of these decisions academic. In many cases the positions on the team are simply going to the survivors.

If a RB has 60 yards he had a bad day....if he has 16 of them he has a 1000 yd season.......add in 3 TDs and color me not impressed......and he doesn't get credit for not being better than Randle

McFadden did as good as he will ever do and it will never be that good again......let him go

Your math sucks... 60 X 16 = 960. He only had 128 yards rushing through the first four games... remember he wasn't the starter through the first 6 games. So considering he only started 10 games and still finished with 1,089 yards... he did well.

In his 6 non starting games he only had 129 yards. That means he got 960 yards in his 10 starts or 96 yards per game.

When you want to have an adult conversation and stop being the Riddler, get back to me.

you made such a strong argument with your math skills that I was left in awe and was not being sarcastic in a way to stay off NSA's radar
