Three Dallas Cowboys You May Have Forgotten About

I wanted to scout out some players from the Dallas Cowboys 2012 season that haven't garnered a lot of attention this offseason. I found the following players to be some of the most interesting under-the-radar guys heading into the 2013 season.

DE/OLB Alex Albright – Age: 25

Alex Albright is one of the most intriguing players on the Dallas Cowboys roster heading into the 2013 season. A big reason as to why is because of the versatility Albright brings to the team. After signing with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2011, Albright has spent most of his career as a core special teams player. But in 2012 due to a multitude of injuries, he saw time at defensive end, 3-4 outside linebacker, 4-3 middle and strong-side linebacker, and yes, he has even taken snaps at tight end.

Another reason Albright stood out to me is his terrific athleticism. Former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was quoted last year as saying, “Alex (Albright) is a very smart guy, but he’s also very physical. We like him a lot. We love the way he plays, and he’s an excellent football player.”

I wouldn't call him an excellent football player just yet, but Albright has some impressive measurables when you compare him to the other hybrid linebackers in his draft class.

I think Sterling Moore is a nice depth corner. Claiborne, Carr, Scandrick, Webb and Moore is really a stacked depth chart. Too bad they don't provide any impact whatsoever when you have issues with your front seven.

But if we could ever get the front fixed, those guys could make some plays.

I believe we really upgraded our LBs this offseason. Lee and Carter should be studs in Kiffin's defense. Then we added Durant, Holloman and Magee to go along with Albright and Sims. I feel really strongly about this linebacking group.

Those players are irrelevant!

I'm pulling for "killer" Kawasaki...he did a damn good job when he got his chance.

I think every team has those kinds of players on the roster hoping they pan out. That's like talking excitedly about Costa, Kowalski, Arkin and Leary last year. Remember that?

To fix the front we need to fix the DT position and find another pass rusher or two.

Same here. I'm starting to get my hopes up he challenges Bernadeau at one spot with Leary replacing Livings around midseason.

I still think we sign a FA Guard but I also wouldn't mind the interior line being Leary-Frederich-Kowalski at the end of the year if those guys have developed enough to earn the spots.

There are 5 guys in our front 7 that I wouldn't be shocked to see them make the Pro Bowl this year. That's Carter, Lee, Ware, Spencer and Ratliff. Ratliff may be the biggest question mark factoring in injuries and age but i'm actually the opposite of you. I think our front 7 will be fine. Our secondary is what scares the hell out of me.

Pretty good choices. I like all three of those guys as role players. Especially Moore (who we signed off of the NE PS, btw).

I love Sterling Moore, I was glad we keep him. Albright started growing on me in the Steelers game. I think he can be one of those good players that stay under the radar. Good find OP.

One or two of those players you mentioned has a decent shot of earning some snaps this year.

I think you underestimate the DL. I don't know how you feel about Hatcher but he's been undervalued by most since he got here. He just can't stay healthy enough to be that impact guy all year. He's had a problem or more every year that has slowed him down if not kept him off the field. When he's healthy he's an impact player. Same with Ratliff. No problems with Ware or Spencer in my mind.

Depth is somewhat of an unknown but Crawford played well last year IMO. Lissemore I think can provide rotation. There is enough competition I think another player will step up as well and get some snaps.

If you're concerned with some staying healthy and not enough proven backups then I understand. But the same can be said by many clubs although admittedly some are in better shape some much better.

Just hope they can complete a season. That's all we have. As of yet, they haven't so IMO.........we're always a possible two under as has been proven.

Agree on Albright and Moore. Not sure where Kowalski fits in...if he beats out Frederick, we have serious problems.

Moore played well last season, and Albright continues to improve. I think Durant starts, and Albright plays significant time. I'm afraid Albright would get exposed with too much playing time, however.

I'd add Lance Dunbar to this list as well. I think he's going to play a significant role in the offense on third downs.

I dont necessarily dislike any of those guys, but I don't think its impossible that Kowalski and Albright are both released.

Kowalski yes, but no way they release Albright. He'll be competing with Durant to start.

Kowalski is so injury prone that he'll be in trouble regardless of how he plays in camp.

No chance he stars at OLB. Not nearly fluid enough.

I haven't seen any issues with how Albright plays in space. He was actually pretty dang good as an injury replacement inside last season.

I think he's actually got a decent shot at earning starters's reps. He's not the favorite, but I'd love to see him make it difficult for Durant and I don't mind having him as a flexible backup in that LB corps. He's our own Chase Blackburn Jr. out there: a guy you're always trying to upgrade, but can't seem to find a better player to replace him with. Except, so far, he's not getting starter's snaps.
