Three new trade destinations for disgruntled Cowboys OL Ron Leary

Atlanta Falcons

Along the offensive line, the Falcons have their biggest question mark at OG. The Falcons have put significant money towards their offensive line in recent years including players such as OG Andy Levitre and offensive center Alex Mack. Atlanta has proven that they want to improve their offensive line to get them over the hump from a playoff hopeful, to a serious contender. They have the skill players such as quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receiver Julio Jones, and running back Devonta Freeman to make it happen, but now need their offensive line to finally click. Kyle Shanahan is currently the offensive coordinator for the Falcons.

His offense runs a zone blocking scheme, something Leary is very familiar with during his days in Dallas. So what could the Cowboys get from the Falcons in return for Leary? One potential name is defensive end Adrian Clayborn, someone the Cowboys had interest in before he signed with Atlanta to a two-year deal worth $8.5 million. Clayborn could come into Dallas and be a nice rotation piece at defensive end for their pass rush, something the Cowboys desperately need...

...New England

...The most recent example would be Dallas trading DT Ben Bass for CB Justin Green in 2014. Though the Patriots could give up a pick, there is a pass rusher that may intrigue the Cowboys. Trey Flowers, a 6-foot-2, 265 pound DE from Arkansas entering his 2nd season, could be a great fit in Dallas’ 4-3 defense. Flowers posted one of the better SPARQ scores from the 2015 draft with a 127.8. This score takes into account not only Flowers athletic ability, but his college production as well and how it will translate to the NFL. Flowers was injured most of last year after being an early 4th round pick.

He is someone who has tremendous upside, but the Patriots may want someone who could contribute now instead. With the Patriots not being afraid to do player-for-player trades, keep an eye on them to be a serious player for Leary.

the other team being the Vikings....I don't think the cowboys will get fair value for leary now that he came out and said he wanted to be traded, but if they think they are set with back-ups if he leaves, then get something while you can...they would get some type of comp pick the following year if he stays thru this season and then bolts (I think)

As I said in the other thread. I think we get a 6th round comp pick after he signs a big free agent deal next year. Then we have him here this year as a valuable backup.

Some disagreed and I don't know enough about how comp picks work but, it seems possible to me.
Even if we don't how valuable is a 6th anyway? More valuable than the best backup guard in football?

Agreed, I don't trade him unless we can get a starting SS for him. Outside of that he is too valuable as "the best backup guard in football"!

Best backup on the Cowboys OL but a starter on a lot of other teams out there.

Stephen Jones made the comment that Dallas will not trade unless they get a good deal, Cowboys are in a position where they can hold on to Leary until someone is willing to give the Cowboys what they want.

Trade him to the Vikings for the WR they drafted or not at all.

I would be willing to trade him for a 2nd rd pick. If the Cowboys are in a position where they can package picks to move up in rd 1 for a QB or another highly ranked player we would have the means to do so.

I just like the WR from Germany, in all honesty I wouldn't trade him at all b/c of possible injuries.

A 6th round pick...oh good, another PS / injured / future development pick, that's what this team likes in that round....yeah, keep him here, it is for the best.

Yes, if he is traded, nothing less than a 2nd round, maybe a 3rd round if we are into the season and the trade deadline is approaching. If on of the other OG's are looking decent.

Dallas has a vet player in Joe Looney who they acquired this off season and some young guys with promise. I would keep Leary as well unless there is a very good offer for him. Downside of course is he will be a FA next season so if Dallas can get a quality offer now it is worth it to the team.

Leary to Atlanta for Dimarco. I would take it. Garrett likes a fullback and I remember that guy just destroying people in that game last year
