1. Inability to move the ball to start the game.
2. Penalties
3. Inability to stop third downs.

All three of these resulted in the single thing that caused the loss.

The Cowboys went thr3e and out in the first three possesions accounting for nine offensive plays. In turn, the Pats had 25 plays in those same three possesions. That is more than half of all of Dallas' offensive plays throughtout the entire game!

The reason the score was ran up was because the defense was dead from being on the field. This is what the Cowboys did to other teams, this is what the Cowboys did to themselves in this game by having drops and penalties on offense and breaking down on there third down coverage.
