Three Trade Up Options!

There is significant buzz suggesting the Cowboys want to exit this draft with one of the top six defenders. I believe there are three potential teams they may target for a trade.

1. Cleveland at Pick 6

If the Cowboys trade up to pick 6, their primary targets would be Bailey and Styles, provided they are still available. The trade parameters would involve swapping 6 & 39 for 12 & 20. If necessary, a 5th-round pick could be included to finalize the deal. I anticipate that Dallas will target a cornerback with pick 39, with names like Hood, Ponds, Johnson, Abney, and Scott being potential candidates.

2. Kansas City at Pick 9

Should the Cowboys target Kansas City, they would be looking at Bain and Downs, assuming both are available at pick 9. The trade parameters for this deal would be 9 & 29 for 12 & 20. If Bain is selected at pick 9, it’s likely Dallas will focus on cornerbacks at 29. However, if the Cowboys choose Downs at 9, they may shift their focus to an edge rusher such as Howell, Lawrence, or Mesidor, should he fall.

3. Miami at Pick 11

My preferred option would involve a trade with Miami. This move would need to occur prior to the draft due to medical considerations. The parameters would be 11 & 30, along with Jordyn Brooks, for 12, 20, and 152. This trade would likely position the Cowboys to secure the last of the top six defenders while maintaining the flexibility to trade up again if needed.

Im not a fan of trading up
We need real talent at several places not a star at 1
Reality is that Miami is dumping players and dont want an aging Brooks on the last year of his contract. Keep your powder dry and after the draft they will give him up for next years 3rd

I often don’t like trading up especially when talent is needed at many positions—BUT all of these options are really a trade up from 12 combined with a trade down from 20, which given this draft seems like a great move to me (if the partner can be found).

The Cleveland option would require our 4th if you are going by chart value

For the KC option, I believe we would get a 3rd back as well

You have to remember that draft picks right now are worth a ransom. With only 8 minutes on the clock this year teams will be greedy. Take those picks above and add another or a player.

I am a fan of any option that includes a proven player like Brooks. If going to 11 also allows us to secure Reese, Bailey, Styles, Downs, Delane or Bain, I'm all for that as well. Then, we can take one of the other positions we need at 30 and we've potentially secured three starters in the first round.

If Bain is off our board for whatever reason and we went with McCoy instead, I'd love coming away with something like McCoy, Brooks and Malachi Lawrence (not sure at this point if 30 is too high for him, though).

Id do all three of these. I'm convinced trading up is likely the only way we get a blue chip level talent.

There are keys to looks for though.

@3 we need AZ to take OT
@4 we need Tennessee to take Love.

If we can get off to that start we at least have a chance our guy dropping or trading up slightly for our guy.

1: The only target(s) in a trade up would be Bailey or Reese (If either were available at 6).
- Reese would be the perfect 3-4 OLB that moves to DE in Nickel.

2: Trading down to 9 gets you a player that might be available at 12 anyway.

3: Moving down from 20 to 30 is sufficient to acquire veteran LB Jordyn Brooks.

McCoy is more talented than Delane...
- It's all about the interviews of which we have no info.
- If McCoy did well in the interviews, I would just turn in the card now.
- If players like Reese, Bailey, etc. fall to 12, then teams discovered something negative that didn't get published.

The ACL injury has to be a concern. Some players never recover 100% from it. Hopefully McCoy comes back but do we want to take the chance? We already have one cb recovering from it.

He rans a 4.38 forty and jumped 38 inches at his recent Pro Day.
- Players can't do that with a bad knee...

It’s not something you will see in a pro day with straight line speed or a vertical. I’m from Chicago and our own Derrick Rose was never the same. I understand they are all individual situations but for an organization who saw Michael Gallup never return to form and already have a CB in a similar situation, why take the chance.

Bain seems like the only one other than McCoy who may be there because of concerns. McCoy's seems to be because of missing the year recovering from injury, and that's a legitimate concern. We've had players return from ACL surgery and not be the same afterward.

If they skip on Bain, I'm going to assume it's because of the shortness of his arms and the lack of speed to make up for that. I'm not saying I'd skip on him, but if we take him, I hope that our staff has put in a lot of effort studying him.

You’re wrong. You need stars, blue chip prospects like Parsons who could bring a skill set. Not a bunch of osa odigizuas

6 is the best option if the Browns want to bail, get pick 39 back for 12&20

I’m still concerned some about McCoy’s knee. I mean, he might be fine and be the same player as he was in 2024… but him running a 40 and vertical jumping isn’t enough to make me comfortable with it.

I want to see him cutting, planting on that leg and exploding in the opposite direction. All the things that CB’s do that stress that knee. I saw him doing some drills but they weren’t him going 100% all out.

I really wish he would’ve ran a 3-cone drill and short shuttle. Those would have actually told us a lot. Good times there coupled with watching him explode out of cuts could have made me very comfortable with taking him at 12… or made me very uncomfortable with taking him at 12 if they weren’t good.
