Instead of the head coaching, offensive/defensive coordinator threads, how about a thread on some of the coaching positions that don't get as much glory? I think Parcells is still trying to find his guys and maybe his biggest problem in his 4th coaching stint has been that he has a lot less of his usual guys around him compared to the previous 3 coaching gigs.
Here ya go. I'll start with the coach I think needs to be replaced pronto. The offensive line coach.
Vermeil just retired from the Chiefs. Now I don't know if they plan on promoting from within or going fresh but since Vermeil has been there, there are two things I think of when the Chiefs are mentioned: 1) a horrible defense LOL, and 2) a dominating, powerful offensive line.
Mike Solari is the offensive line coach of the Chiefs. They had 3 Pro Bowlers last year on their line! He's been their offensive line coach since 1997 (one of the holdovers that was good enough to last through several coaches) and has averaged 30.8 sacks per season, the 5th lowest in the NFL during that timespan. Priest Holmes went from nobody to somebody with that line. LJ looks like a beast in his first year. This man has stayed on board even when he had guys like Donnell Bennett, Tony Richardson, and Greg Hill as his featured runner.
Another candidate, on the same team..... Irv Eatman, the assistant offensive line coach of the Chiefs. He's been a mainstay since the Vermeil years when the offensive line really hit its peak. I'm not sure what kind of duties he shares with Solari, but if Solari survives another coaching change, maybe we could bribe Eatman and offer him a better position?
Both of those men are well respected around the league, we know that Parcells admires Vermeil, and all of you saw what a force KC's offensive line was when they played us. Our defense held up well against some pretty good offensive lines this year (such as Seattle!) but they were just flatout run over by KC's line!
Have any suggestions?
