The Eagles have the tie breaker advantage right now, but could they lose it?

They have games remaining against the Cowboys, Giants and Skins.

If the Cowboys beat the Eagles and Skins in the next match-up and the Eagles lose to either the Giants or Skins, who finishes the season with the tie breaker? The Cowboys and Eagles would be 1-1 against each other and would both be 4-2 in the division.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I believe the third tie breaker is record in common games.

Right now, we do not know since they have lost or beaten the same teams: SF, Arizona, Houston, Tennessee and Jacksonville.

So long story short, in order of importance, games remaining to win the division goes like this

Eagles
Skins
Colts
Bears

Flip flop Bears and Colts for wild card Tb bc then conf record comes into play

Thanks.

Unfortunately, either way, the Eagles would have to lose at least 2 more games including the next one against the Cowboys.

I think if we go 10-6 with losses to Chi and Indy and the Eagles lose to Seattle, Dallas and Was or Nyg we win the division.

Common opponents would be equal (9-5) but we'd have the better conference record (7-5 vs 6-6)

If we beat Indy ,Chi and Phi but lose to Wash we could lose Divison if Philly loses to sea and Dallas but wins out after that, due to better record in common opponents (Philly would be 10-4 we would be 9-5)

The NFL's playoff and tiebreaking system is BROKEN.

There I was, Thursday night, rooting for Seattle assuming Dallas' head to head win over them would give them the tiebreaker with both teams 8-4. Guess what- I was wrong!!

But I have a feeling the Cowboys will be 10-6 and watching the playoffs at home while the 6-10 winner of the NFC South gets awarded for being the best of an epically crap-tastic NFC South.

Head to head only applies if those two teams are tied with each other and no one else. It makes sense. There are lots of seasons when team A beat team B, team B beat team C, and team C beat team A. Applying the head to head would make no sense. That's why the conference record is used to determine when three or more teams from different divisions are tied. It makes sense. It's not broken.
