He's saying that Englishman Lee Westwood is the "greatest golfer in the world".

Tiger fan boys aren't going to like this. Discuss...

Westwood is 37.

Tiger is 35.

Westwood has 2 wins on the PGA tour.

Tiger has 71.

Oh but wait, Westwood mainly plays on the European tour.

20 wins on that tour.

Tiger has 38.

Westwood has never won one of the 4 Majors.

Tiger has won 14 of them.

Question...anyone taking that coach seriously?

Exactly.

Although I will say this; Westwood is a damn good golfer.

But no. He isn't Tiger. Tiger's worst season was this year. And Lee still couldn't win a major.

wouldn't you want your coach to say the same thing?

They did say yesterday on the commentary that Westwood would be #1 in the World rankings if he didn't play the next two weeks.

I guess that an indication of how oddly the word rankings work, but does suggest that Westwood has been playing well over the last few months.

I thought he'd been out with a calf injury

This is a little misleading. He never claimed that Westwood is historically better than Woods.

He saying that he's the #1 golfer in the world right now......and he's right about one thing, it damn sure isn't Tiger Woods.

Tiger fanboys are going to have to get used to Wood not being the player he once was. His dominance is over IMO.....there is no question that for a VERY significant amount of time, Tiger Woods was the most dominant player the sport has ever seen....but that time has come to an end.

He may regain some momentum and start winning again, but he'll never own the tour like he used to. His peers have stepped up to his challenge with authority.

I'll give him one thing....he made this sport a better one. It's on a level now that wouldn't have been possible without Woods.

I don't think so.

Time will tell, but saying he's the #1 golfer in the sport right now is like proclaiming the previous year's super bowl champs the #1 team in the league during the next year's 3-13 campaign. It's just not true.....outside of the fact that they were the previous year's winner and still retain a trophy that they will undoubtedly not retain.

Woods hasn't won this year. He has only two top 10 finishes, and he's missed several cuts. He shot something like 18 over par in one tournament......not something the best golfer in the world does.

This just isn't his year.

What, barely watchable as opposed to non-watchable?

Lee Westwood has yet to go out and win a major and in the world of the PGA that is what greatness is based on that is why Nicklaus is considered the greatest golfer because of the 18 majors he won in his career more than any Golfer to play the game and right now in 2nd place of all time majors is Tiger Woods with 14 Majors the most of any active golfer on the PGA. Westwood is a very good player but he has never won a major in his life.

In my view the next big up and comer on the PGA is Rory McIlroy he is only 21 years old and has a very good game that should only get better.
One last thing anyone who thinks Tiger is going to fade away is kidding themselves, I look for Tiger to come back next year stronger than ever and ready to prove to a lot of people that he is still the man.
