Schultz is almost an NFL ready TE and like they said, he came out of a TE school. Gathers may never be NFL ready and TE is not a position where we can afford to carry any projects this year. Just the way it goes sometimes. Gathers was a player they could keep stashing when we had Witten but not anymore.

I will start by saying I realize one preseason game is far from definitive, but these are my observations ...

Jarwin - I like the agility he showed and the smooth, almost effortless way the catches the football. Seemed very smooth in and out of his breaks and making cuts and running after the catch. It's easy to see why the Cowboys like him.

Swaim - Did he even play? I didn't notice him.

Rico - I feel Rico is on the bubble, but at least the few times I made a point of watching him block (goal line situation) he looked good. Since I didn't focus on watching him block more than that I can't say how representative that is of his overall blocking ability, but it did at least suggest he has the basic ability.

Schultz - I didn't notice him much. He looked reasonable on his one catch, but that isn't much to go by. He did get blown up blocking on one play at the goal line, but it's hard to know if that was a fluke or not.

Rico only makes it if, god forbid, one of Jarwin, Swaim or Schultzy get injured and are lost for the season and even then I bet we bring another TE in

Dallas Goedert had 4 catches 66 yards and a TD in limited action.

Oh that’s right...we didn’t want him anyway.

Rico doesn’t have a chance. The team decided that before camp started.
Schultz was invisible. Swaim was invisible as he usually is.

Jarwin showed something. I like watching him play. It reminds me of basketball season because he runs like Dirk Nowitzki.

Rico has been having a hard time for a couple of years now ... i guess 'its a process' takes a decade ... who knows.

This position will be decided on blocking, I'd really like to see the post if someone rates their blocking on All 22 or can link to a statement from coaches.

I wouldn't be completely shocked if Swaim didn't make the team because they couldn't pass up the potential of Schultz and Gathers. Jarwin is the only TE I'm truly positive will make the team.
As long as 2 other TE’s can prove to be quality blockers Swaim is the odd man out I think. All he brings to the table is experience

I didn't see any tight ends that look like a receiving playmaker. No deep threat or red zone scoring threats.

I saw more speed as an offense with the faster tes but they still got very little scoring or big play capabilities unless Rico has something. We certainly didn't regress as an offense without witten Imo. We're still dumping the ball off to tes w no secret sauce on checkdowns

Might as well play a bigger extra olineman and throw it to them on checkdowns. Those plays were just a sloppy turnover waiting to happen. I don't see how Rico can be 3rd on the depth chart when he is the clearly the most athletic and capable of scoring out of this tight end group.

Go get an Antonio Gates to play with these tight ends and teach them how to score in the red zone. All I see is bodies on passing downs w our tes. Possession receiving tes at best who have no real bonifide skills for big plays or Scoring. That's pretty much par for the course for this coaching staff. I see no reason to build an offense around a bunch of incomplete tes but whatever. We're gonna have to use less formations w these designated blocking tes for passing if we want to make it more Dak friendly. Build more of a passing offense around our complete rbs and wrs untill we get a bonifide receiving te. Those players look capable of taking our passing game to a whole new level whereas the tes are gonna hold us back

I agree, we know the ceiling on Swaim and it isn't very high. His floor is as a solid backup but I really think Schultz and Jarwin will surpass him this preseason and they will keep Rico for his upside and specialty plays.

Swaim and Rico aren't going to be in Dallas in 2 years, and to be honest, I could see how Schultz could flame out pretty quick too. Just an effort guy as a blocker and not quick or explosive as a receiver.

Jarwin is smooth enough to make it.

Find a way to keep a guy who was practically invisible against scrubs. Sign me up.

We will see next week. They will switch things up and give him a shot with the 1s and 2s. If he has it then we will see. If not, the experiment maybe over.

Did Dallas not want him or was he not readily available for Dallas draft slot? It would have taken Dallas 1st round pick in order to draft Goedert or a trade up from their 2nd round position.

Every player sees limited action in the first preseason game and Goedert did play the entire first half.

Another blocking tight end.
