"Like I do every season I prepare myself for whatever," said Barber, who is under contract until 2008. "If I have to carry the ball every snap, I'll do it. If I get half of them, that's what I'll do as well, as long as it is helping us win."

Somebody send this link to Greg Ellis.

Eli and the NYG will fail miserably without Tiki.
I have tons of respect for Tiki, he's probably one of the most underrated RB's ever. Not that I like him or anything, but he's been the backbone of any success that team has had since he's been there.
That said, I hope he retires tomorrow so our lives will be easier.

It is easy for outstanding players to talk about retiring on their own terms - while still productive. But for most of them, it very difficult to end their careers before they have to.

Just a thought, but if he's even thinking about retirement right now then maybe his heart isn't into the game anymore?

Possible, but I don't think so. Judging my last year, he's got plenty of heart.

The guy is now in his 30's. He knows he can't play forever. So he's thinking out loud about life after football. Nothing unusual about it. It is easy to talk about leaving the game, but much more difficult to do.

There are exceptions (RBs Barry Sanders and Robert Smith come to mind), but most need a couple of years of diminishing skills or injuries before deciding to leave the game that has been such a huge part of their lives.

He was on the nflnetwork awhile back and said that realistically he only has one or two more years of high productivity left because of his age.

The vast majority of rbs wear out soon after they turn 30.

Translation .. it will take more money to keep him beyond this season.

He's got a lot of other business opportunities so he's leveraging them against the Giants organization. He stated that in a recent article that he considered several really good business offers this past off-season.

At the same time, he comes across as the "good guy" to the fans as opposed to if he came out and spoke the truth .. "If you don't pay me more after this season, I'm leaving." which would make him a villain to the fans.

Next debate... Is he a Hall of Famer?

If he goes three more years with production like his last two (or even his last four), then yes. If he breaks his leg on the first day of the 2006 season and never runs again, his total production is a little too much like Terrell Davis.

David.

Well, for a guy that just recently started producing big numbers, i guess it'd be better to go out producing

The short answer is no he's not.

He would have to continue to put up to ridiculous of numbers at what would be an ancient age for running backs to give that qualifying statement any validity.
