I didn't see this posted but Tim Brown, was on Galloway show here in Dallas for two hours, yesterday. He said, the weakness that Phillips 3-4 has is the gaps around 25 yards to the middle of the field. Which means, if OL can hold, there are throws to be made to the middle the field, i.e. long throws.

Wade said that to Tim Brown when he was trying to sign him or acknowledged that when he was trying to sign him to Broncos from Raiders apparently. And Tim said thats what they saw on Film when they played against Phillips coached D.

But that seems like a good news and the reason for Cowboys D being so good. Because witht he front 7 cowboys have, there is very little chance of consistently or even trying to throw that throw multiple times.

I always heard the talk about Phillips defense having a hole, that everyone knows about, but never heard it put so clearly before. No wonder, Wade puts so much effort on pass rush and hitting the qb.

We talked about that in what is Dallas's concern of defense in a previous post I mentioned the middle of the field over the LB

Favre should take this advise and hold on to the ball till his receivers get 25 yards over the middle......:)

Ha, ok, but didn't see specific yardage mention before though.

I agree: that's how the Gspots beat us twice: but their line was playing better than the viqueens oline right now AND our 'D was a shadow of it's current self..........so good luck with that because Favre will take his shots, he always does

I don't think this was a secret... I mean, any defense in the league has a weakness 25 yards down the field... can you hold the pass rush off for that long is the question... a route 25 yards down the field, in the middle of the field, if pressed.. is a good 3-6 second route.. totally depending on the cuts, and acceleration of the player.

Not yardage but if you look at all those 3rd and longs we given up is right their when we give up those 3rd and 19 it has been in the middle.

Several TE haven given us fits in that area and the Vikings have a good TE we need to make sure we get them down to the ground if they do complete that pass. Harvin scares me most in that area because if he breaks a tackle it can turn into a td real quick and he is built like a RB and not a speed WR

Wait, so if the offensive line protects long enough to allow receivers to get 25 yards down field, the defense is susceptible?

Shocking.

Every defense has a weakness, exploiting them is the challenge.

That is true. There is no such thing as a perfect defense. If Tim Brown knows this, every offensive coordinator in the league knows it as well.

Just like every defensive coordinator knew the lead draw was coming when they played the 90s Cowboys.

several sacks on McNabb where due to him holding the ball way too long which suggests good coverage,,, surely an Andy Reid coached team that we play constantly would know about and try to exploit a hole 25 yards down the field... ?

Do you have a quote from Wade's press conference after our playoff win? You know, I figured you'd have one since you're so obsessed with Wade Phillips press conferences.

I agree that this is not much of a secret.

The couple of things that make this difficult to complete are:

1. Get the QB enough time to let the route develop.

2. Fit the ball in between several defenders - over the LBs but in front of the safety, inside the CB. You need a combination of touch and velocity to make this throw.

3. The receiver may take a shot after he catches the ball which dislodges it.

4. We do tend to mix up our coverages between man, soft zone, man short with 2 deep (played this against the Eagles alot). We also mix in a bit of blitz but mostly rely on the front 3 + 1LB.

Oh they'll hold alright. Just like every team does against us and almost never sees it called.

There's absolutely no way in hell their tackles can consistently block Ware and Spencer without holding. I'll bet it wont be called once.

I heard that yesterday... Didn't he specifically say crossing routes 15-25 yards deep, as in behind the LBs and in front of the deep safety?

But as everyone said... Every D has a weakness, and that might as well be it. Gives your pass rush a chance, and if you're mixing and disguising your coverages, you can get the WR expecting man to man when it's really zone and light him up.
