Backup QB is a major issue. We need a real quarterback or two behind Romo. Forget Brooks, Wright, B. Johnson, etc., those guys are jokes. Who is out there or who can we realistically get? At this point, we've got nothing behind Romo. This is a big problem. What sleeper QB might we draft or sign as an UFA?

There is a couple guys I personally like, and with teachers like Wade and Garrett in here now signing a younger guy might be the answer.

I really think that Anthony Wright, David Carr, Josh McCown (if he is cut), or selecting a guy like Kolb in the middle rounds or a guy like Stanton in round 3.

This backup QB is starting to look like our most important area of need..think about Philly when McNabb went down, if Garcia was not the 'guy' we would not have seen or heard of the Eagles the rest of the year if they had just a fill in type of backup QB.
if Romo gets hurt we are in deep 'caca'...we have too talented a team to have the season go down the tubes due to the engine being broke .
I would think that our best choices would be guys like Holcomb, Volek, Rattay, Wright or Ramsay---all coachable guys (heck, we got 2 QB caoching pros on staff now who could continue training one of these guys too!) with some mobility that would not cost a bundle...
Collins, Johnson and Bledsoe are all in the same mold and would be more trouble than they are work

McCown sounds mildly interesting.

Those guys are jokes, but Ragone and Couch are not? How is that possible? Couch has not thrown a pass in the NFL since 2003. The guy just is not that good. There are no really good back ups out there. Every one of them is going to have drawbacks. Just about every team has to hope their starter does not get hurt. The teams that don't worry about their starter getting hurt don't have great starters to begin with. The NFL is short on quality QBs.

Now, now, I dropped the Ricky Ray idea for the time being. Putting his name on my thread will do nothing but infuriate certain folks. For the record that was not my idea! LOL

Brooks is an absolutely TERRIBLE idea though. Wright I have to admit is better than Brooks. Carr may be our best option long term if Romo gets hurt for any length of time.

I think price tag may play a role in who Dallas brings in as a backup. There are a few candidates out there that could fit the role but each has a certain amount of weakness or they would not be looked at as backup QB's.

Not at all Beavis.

Sure seems like it when you're knocking others' ideas and offering gems like the broken-down, finished Tim Couch.

As for Carr, does anyone else realize that his contract calls for salaries of $5.25 million in '07 and $6 million in '08?

That's your "backup" plan?

But if you've given up the Ricky Ray thing, I'm all for it.

when was the last time you posted this retread thought process of yours and the thread WAS NOT shut down? after the first 6-7 times the average semi-intelligent person would figure it out and move on.

You have to be more specific there Philo. Which one of your 500 threads on this subject (Ricky Ray) is the best?
