Back in June, as in June of last year before the 2007 season even began, over at the Dallas Morning News blog, this is where MacMahon writes, I stated in some comments my opinion for keeping Julius Jones as the starter and MBIII as the change up back, read here.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]At that time I, and about 70% of Cowboys Nation, still thought Julius Jones was going to find all that greatness he showed flashes of in 2004 and 2005 so of course we wanted the home run hitter on the field as the starter. We all know MBIII can't take it to the house from 50+ yards. This is the exact reason there is a discussion about trade rumors right now concerning Darren Mcfadden, the most explosive RB coming out in the 2008 draft.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]So now McMahon responds to an email of mine, sent out to a bunch of people, which alerted them I recently started a 'Do Not Trade MBIII' petition, read here. This guy is just too funny, here's the email he sent to me, read here.[/FONT]

Was I the only one last June to think that Jones was going to go back to form and stop running like a robot? Did I ever say in those comments that I wanted MBIII out of the picture? Did I say MBIII stinks? Do I want Darren McFadden on the Dallas Cowboys?[/FONT]

Yes, I do want him on the Dallas Cowboys for the same reason I thought Jones should be the starter - you need a RB who can take the ball to the house! But you also need a RB like Barber who can get you the tough yards, who can 'punch it in from a yard out' and who can raise the excitement level for the offense. Get this, I want MBIII and I want McFadden people![/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Not sure MacMahon knew this much when he emailed me. If getting McFadden means losing MBIII then I say no to the deal. Just like in the comments from June I want the best of both worlds. Now with hindsight being 20/20 and now knowing Julius Jones was going to come out this season and clearly play his way out of a Cowboys uniform I guess we can all admit that little Timmy MacMahon was right in his theory that Barber should be the starter. I think it was blatantly obvious last June that Barber was the better back and I'd be extremely embarrassed if I was someone who ever attempted to argue otherwise.

By the way, Wade said in the Campo press conference that there is absolutely no difference in the secondary between a 3-4 and a 4-3. The coverages are the exact same.

By the way, Wade said in the Campo press conference that there is absolutely no difference in the secondary between a 3-4 and a 4-3. The coverages are the exact same.

I totally concur on the home run back thing but after the 3rd or 4rth game of the season I gave up defending JJ. Barber is like a mini Earl Campbell with what appears to be less speed. I love watching him run but still want to try to get a home run hitter in here, just not in the 1st round...

I don't think he threated you he but Im not the biggest MB3 guy but i think your right on the fact that getting mcfadden for barber shouldn't be done. It really doesn't improve us at all with that said heres to Chris Johnson being drafted by the Boys

No. I think there's a valid reason we at least nominally started him -- his fragile ego required it. Whether he started or backed up didn't matter because they both received the same amount of drives. Simply giving him the first drive of every game was meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but likely meant a lot to Jones.

I don't understand how Julius was more of a home run threat when he never did it.

Besides, does it really matter if your back can go 50 yards or go 25 twice. Barber isn't the fastest but he keeps the ball moving and thats all that matters.

For realz. It's very late round 2. He and Hoyte would wreck shop. Plus, the guy can actually get a good amount of carries himself, not to mention catch out of the backfield.

Last summer I still thought that Marion was the better of the two running backs and desereved the start. Julius was saying that he felt like a robot under Parcells and that got me excited atleast that he may break out. I like the possibilties of things we could do with our backs last year.

I was always wondering they would say on TV that "Jones would wear them out and MB would come through like a wrecking ball once the defense was worn down" However if MB would have started off some drives to make way for Julius I think he could have been more sucessful in that role. Still splitting the carries 50 - 50ish just not by first half JJ second half MB.

Jones is a one hit wonder, he showed a lack of vision and a lack of diversty in his moves from day one. The league hadn't seen him before and didn't know what he was, so he produced. I got banned from two other forums as a troll for saying this exact thing when he was producing VERY well. He has been and always was very limited in his skill set and eventually that catches up to you in the NFL. Plus the ****** has been working on his upper body way too much for a running back, his arms got huge and his legs stayed the same, the guy doesn't get it, likely never will.
I will freely admit I am completely biased against him, I just don't like him, but that isn't something that was always true, he worked his way onto my "I wanna kick him in the balls" list.

A diehard Cowboy fan started an online petition to prevent Marion "The Barbarian" Barber from being traded. I'm sure this will strongly influence Jerry's decision, so please sign your name.


Barber really won the fans over while running to the Pro Bowl this season. A hot debate topic last off-season on this here blog was whether Barber was a better back than Julius Jones.


I tried and tried to talk sense into folks, even breaking down Barber's carries to prove he wasn't just padding stats on third-and-long draw plays. Read the comments in the post linked in the previous sentence, and you'll see a fella who goes by DC Fanatic really ripping me for being so dumb to suggest that Barber should cut into Jones' carries.


DC Fanatic is the same dude who started the online petition, which he e-mailed to several media members. I figured it'd be great fun to give him a chance to officially reverse ground when I linked to his petition, so I replied to his e-mail. He replied with a heartfelt pat on my back that he posted on numerous online forums.


Appreciate it, pal. Let me know when that Keep Julius Jones petition gets online, and I'll be sure to link to it, too.
