Time for a new TV

My six year old 60 inch Panasonic Plasma GT50 went out tonight. Called the Geek squad who asked me about the lights blinking. The lights blink 13 times between pauses and he told me my A board is out and needs replacing. They dont have one and cant get one since the Plasmas are now discontinued. So I guess I am now in the market for a new TV. I am looking at the OLED 4k 65 inch unit which is about $2600. Not sure if it is worth going to something that high but the reviews are good. Some say it may have an issue with burn in but they said the same thing about the Plasmas and I never had an issue.

I do want a 65 inch TV tho and want something competetive with the Plasmas black levels which were incredible. Does anyone have an OLED or is there another technology that I should be looking at. I am not a big fan of the LED technology as the ones I have seen had something called the soap opera effect which left a lot to be desired.

I dont do gaming on it. Sports and movies are what it will be used for.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

There is usually an option to turn off the soap-opera effect (Frame interpolation, video smoothing, or whatever a brand wants to call it) on most TVs.

I was going to say subscribe to Consumer Reports on line for one month and you can find reviews to everything they test. I know their monthly magazine didn't always cover what I was looking for, but I didn't know there was a book as Longboysfan suggested. The largest TV I found was a 99.5" LED on Best Buy for $60,000.

I’m hoping to get a 4K TV someday, but the Sony Bravia TV that my husband & I got a few years ago still works incredibly well.

The Consumers Reports suggestion is a good one. For me, I've always gone the Samsung route. We got a 65' 4K LED a few years ago and it's beautiful. They're rated 60-100K hours, which is a crazy long time. Run cool, great picture and sound.

I had to part ways with a perfectly fine box Sony to make room for the flat screen. It was a sad day until my flat screen picked up a picture and I was happy again. I checked Best Buy for the largest size TV they sell and now that's my advertisement. 4K TVs starting at $279.99... shop now!

I've got a Samsung 65 4K and I like it as long as I've got a sound bar hook up because the sound ain't great. I've been working my way up the size chart from 32 to 46 to 50 to 65 and thought the next stop would be 80 but then I saw this one that's almost 100 at Best Buy. If I go for that, I am going to put it in the garage and sit in my car and pretend it's the olden days of drive in theaters. I'll just hang the sound bar on my window.

I keep my Inflate-A-Date in the back seat so I am already set for that.

Im just like you..I had plasmas and loved them...so many people would bad mouth them, but for what you and I use our tvs for, they were the best in the business...

I know you don't like LEDs...but Sony is your best bet right now...

Sony A1E is your best bet but it's expensive and it's an oled..so you might like that about it

Sony 900E is probably the best bang for your buck

Sony 930E is better than the 900E but for what we use it for, it may not be worth the price increase..

These are your top choices..no question lol
