Really, I think it will come down to you just shopping around and finding what you want and prefer. Technology is so good today you can find great pictures on even lower brands. My sister bough a $400 4k Hisense tv and it looks great, to be honest. The soap opera effect you can usually turn off but a lot of that had to do with the 240hz they were offering in tvs. I've heard they have stopped making those as a lot of people don't prefer that effect.

Something to think about when you're shopping for a 4k TV is if that model offers HDR. Usually the HDR models are a bit more expensive but worth it. The feature makes pictures really, really sharp.

65"? Why? I have a 44" TV I bought for 289 and it serves me just fine.

Why, because a 44" TV would not work in the family rm of a 5k sq ft house. My next move will likely be in the 80+ range.

Your house is just one big room?

I have a 55" and it works well though. The bigger the TV the further you need to sit back from it to comfortably watch it. (I sit 10'-15' from the TV depending if I'm on the couch or chair) If my eyes have to shift directions to see another part of the TV. It's too big or I'm too close to it. At 80", You need to be close to 20' from the TV. This is the same reason everyone hates sitting in the front rows of a theater. Damn screen is too big to watch comfortably.

Got a 65 inch Samsung curved 4k Ultra HD smart tv last year. I love the soap opera effect on movies. When you can find something airing in 4k its nice. But thats the issue, Not many shows are 4K unless its movies from a blue-ray or some streaming channel like netflix. I didnt realize that before I got the 4k. In all honesty it doesnt matter i love the size and a few years I'm going 80inches.

My six year old 60 inch Panasonic Plasma GT50 went out tonight. Called the Geek squad who asked me about the lights blinking. The lights blink 13 times between pauses and he told me my A board is out and needs replacing. They dont have one and cant get one since the Plasmas are now discontinued. So I guess I am now in the market for a new TV. I am looking at the OLED 4k 65 inch unit which is about $2600. Not sure if it is worth going to something that high but the reviews are good. Some say it may have an issue with burn in but they said the same thing about the Plasmas and I never had an issue.

I do want a 65 inch TV tho and want something competetive with the Plasmas black levels which were incredible. Does anyone have an OLED or is there another technology that I should be looking at. I am not a big fan of the LED technology as the ones I have seen had something called the soap opera effect which left a lot to be desired.

I dont do gaming on it. Sports and movies are what it will be used for.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you get one? I saw a great deal today if not.

I kept calling around and am giving Julios Tv Repair or something like that a chance to fix it. He first said it was going to be $275 that includes the part. But then he called yesterday and said he can only get the part from Panasonic and the cost went up to $525 part and labor which is about all i would spend to repair. I am giving him this week to "fix" it. "Appeasing the wife" is the motive here. I am hoping he calls back at the end of the week and tells me the part is not available anymore and I am out of luck. Or I could just stop by his office and give him a hundred bucks and tell him to send me an email that the part is not available to show the wife. I saw the LG OLED 65 at Best Buy that has my name on it. But I have to go through the process first. What deal did you find?

"Process" :lmao:

I do the same. I can't remember where I left the keys or cell phone, but I can come up with a devious master plan when I want a new TV. I can get real creative when it comes to convincing the wife :muttley:

The LG and Sony OLED's are great.

I have a panasonic th-px500u 50" plasma that I bought in november of 06 and I love it. After I calibrated it I can never find anything that can match the picture. None of the new led can but these oled are great and they can match the black.

Panasonic has always made the best tv's to me. I have a panasonic 40" LED in my office/music room and it has a fantastic picture and it was only 375 dollars. Something happened and panasonic will not sell their tv's in america but they have a line of high end tv's still but you have to buy them from canada.

Last week I went to turn the tv on at 8 to watch a baseball game and the light was on but no picture, the remote wouldn't work and I couldn't use the menu/input etc. buttons on the tv itself. Nothing worked. I replaced the batteries in the remote and still nothing. I have been dying to upgrade to a 65" OLED but can justify the money being spent right now so I was actually happy. I took the tv off the wall and unplugged it and then waited 5 minutes and plugged it back in and worked like normal. Not sure what happened but in the end I am glad I would rather have my plasma.

This was rated at like 60000 hours and I was told when i bought it would not last for a long time because the tv will just wear out. it has been on a lot through the years and it is still like new. Its one of the best pieces of electronics I have ever bought.

a 65" 4k smart tv with 120z and the extremely thin bezel is teasing me though. Oh and you can just turn the motion blur off. Its horrible I dont know anyone that likes it.

I did a 70" Vizio 4K about 3 yrs ago, reviews were top notch. Think I paid $2200 at Costco, what's good about Costco is that they add 2 yrs to the manufacturer warranty free so 3 yrs total. Anyway this is how I made my determination back then http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/
that forum is the authority on all things AV related.

I used it to build out my home theater about a decade ago and boy I miss that room sometimes:)
