Time for the Cowboys to hire a GM.

Couldn't read any more after that. There is some quality, but teams are overpaying for what they are getting. Just because some of these players have names we all know doesn't mean they should get millions and millions of $$$ when they do not deserve it. Remember this, we have a plan and are executing it. Just because it may not fit your plan doesn't mean we are failing. Free agency is only a few days old.

exactly, and I never heard of signing 2 free agents in the 1st week of free agency, not to mention retaining one of your own, as doing nothing at all

Id like even a half descent answer as to why our owner/gm and head coach are both on vacation right now and not in town taking care of business?:bang2:

and you don't think they have phones/computer access where they are on vacation? if they want to make a move - they can do it from just about anywhere they want to. they don't have to be physically sitting at VR.

ever think that BP and JJ have a plan about FA and draft? as many have noted, the quality of the players in FA vs. the amount of money they are getting is totally out of whack. there's still FA options available for good, solid players that won't break the bank. there's also the draft.

Jerry said on The Ticket a couple of years back that he is the GM, he will always be the GM and no other GM will EVER be considered as long as he is the owner.

Jerry Jones has done a fantastic job the last two years. He already put his ego aside to hire Parcells, and he doesn't make the draft picks anymore.

He'll be doing it again signing TO, actually he'll be putting his reputation at risk. I'd say thats a pretty selfless act to try and get the best WR in the game.

I know it has been suggested before, but I just have to say it again. It is time for JJ to set his rather large ego aside & hire a quality GM. You can look no further than this year's FA period for proof. No matter how they try to spin it, they are standing with their hands in their pockets while a very quality crop of Free Agents get gulped up by opposing teams. Even if they were to go on a so-called FA tear, there are getting to be fewer & fewer quality free agents out there on the market.

All you have to do is look at teams like Cleveland & Minnesota to see my point. Sure, they have a huge cap to work with this year, but, with all of the recent releases, Jerry isn't exactly in salary cap hell either.
The best thing the Browns did a couple of years ago was to put Randy Lerner in charge of the team after his father, Al, died. He is a football fan, first & foremost, but also a wise business man. The first thing he did was hire head coach Romeo Crennel, then GM Phil Savage. Savage learned to judge talent from one of, if not THE best personel person in the NFL, Ozzie Newsome. Together, they drafted close to a dozen players for the Ravens who ended up in the Pro-Bowl. They also were very careful in FA & landed some very good players there, as well. Now in Cleveland, Savage had a grade "A" draft last year, and is having an excellent FA signing period. Living in NE Ohio, it is so much fun to watch someone who has a plan & works it to a tee.

How can an owner with the responsibilities of a Jerry Jones possibly have the time to assimilate a plan, & then execute it the way a Savage can. This is all Savage does-find talented players, and sign them to his team. Come on, Jerry, it's time to give up such a valued position & give it to someone other than one of your sons. Bloodlines don't automatically make a super personnel director. We had so much fun & anticipation after last year's FA signings. What a difference a year makes.

And who does the GM answer to? That would be the owner. End of discussion. Thank you.

After Jimmy Johnson and before Bill Parcells, Jerry Jones proved to be the worst GM in pro football during that time. I have a draft book from last year that looks over every team's draft over the past decade and the Cowboys have drafted the most busts in the first two rounds and the most players over that span who are currently out of the league. That's not my opinion, that's a fact. I think Jerry Jones is a great owner but an awful GM, especially when he has a coach he can bully around. I believe most Cowboy fans share this same opinion and if you don't and think Jerry is a great GM, he once traded two first round draft picks for Joey Galloway even though he had an aging, declining team. Also, if Jerry sent his resume to the other 31 teams to be their GM, would they hire him? Of course not. They would throw his resume in the trash. Having said that, Jerry will be the GM of the Cowboys until he dies so hopefully he learned from his past failures and he'll continue to listen to others once Parcells leaves. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

We should've hired a real GM in 1994 and probably could've avoided Switzer, Gailey, Campo and about 9 years of putrid drafts and trades.

GM...or not...the problem, in my opinion is, inconsistency...that has been a Jerry trademark since Jimmy left.

Zampese in, Zampese out...Switzer, Gailey (and another new offensive system), Campo, Parcells...Coslet..musical chairs at QB...and on and on it went.

And we're doing it again with Parcells.

First year under Parcells we made changes but kept the core group...total revamp of coaching staff.

Next season, they figured we were a playoff team...conservative spending on free agents...Wiley, Vinny, Dedric Ward, Eddie George...Bad plan.

Last season, mish mosh...some high priced vets (not worth the investment like Ferguson and Rivera)...youngsters in the draft (which is the direction I'd have preferred from the start)...Revamp of coaching staff...new defensive system.

This season seems like a blend of seasons two and three...conservative spending on free agents...but this time, we are spending on younger guys (which is a good thing).

I just don't see a focused plan. And that is Jerry all the way. I'd have thought Parcells would have had a bigger influence and brought along a more consistent plan.

He hasn't.

Bill Parcells is the coach and gm, without the title....if JJ hired a real gm who made all the decisions on players and contracts, Bill Parcells would be gone in a NY minute.

we have a GM, and have had one since 2003...his name is Bill Parcells

he gets all the credit (and blame) for everything here...EVERYTHING

Jerry has nothing to do with the draft

Jerry has nothing to do with signing or waiving players

Jerry has nothing to do with the hiring/firing of assistants

Jerry has nothing to do with front office staff

ITS ALL PARCELLS

David

And that's the main problem. BP is not a good GM and nobody can do it all without a lot of mistakes.

BP is the coach, JErry is the GM, but BIll has alot of input, it's a give and take decision-making process between the 2
