Time For Witten To Step Up And Demand Some First Reads in The Passing Game...

...from the reports he was frustrated on the sidelines about being open on the 4th down but because he was the 2nd look on the play he didn't get the ball. Time for him to say... "Enough is Enough! Get me the *&#$ Ball, Payton and Bledsoe"!

Witten is our only Pro Bowl offensive skill player and in 2 weeks, (not including his disappearance in the pre-season), with Bledsoe he has gone from one of the top young TEs in the game to a complete non-factor in the passing game. With all the good an offense receives from the play and catches of a great TE and it's effect on all the other offensive players, it is time Witten become a focal point of this offensive pass system!

Forget the talk about the D took him away. You don't think teams try and take away Gonzalez or Crumpler? The fact is it's up to the offensive coaches and Bledsoe to get the ball to Witten on something more than a 5 yard completion short of the sticks!

His disappearance so far this season, (including the pre-season), is one of the major problems and disappointments with this offense.

Early in the year. Don't think Bp doesnt get it either. I expect us to go 4-1 over our next 5 games, leading into the bye, that would be huge.

You know what, this game was a ****in wake up call. Play 60 minutes of hard nosed football. I tihnk this game pissed off our players, and now they might have a mean streak.

You know what I like most about this season, we get another shot at those ****s.

I agree, but the first guy tackles him every time.
Get him in space and he will do it. He did it for the past 2 years. They must get him down the field stretching the middle of the field.

We've almost completely ignored him since the first pre-season game. Parcells even said in one of his TC press conferences that Witten was talking to him about it.

I agree that he never breaks tackles, but at the same time he is a very reliable target, and we could have used him bigtime on those 3rd down plays we messed up on, includin the one where he was wideopen. Who cares if he doesnt break 5 tackles and run 50 yards after the catch, he isnt TO, and very few people can do that kind of thing, he still needs the damn ball in his hands, in order to get us more scores in the redzone, and more 1st downs.

Supposedly Bledsoe and he (Witten) were "bonding".

To me it looks like Bledsoe tries to go to Glenn on every pass as his first option... obviously that's a caricature but still.

I think Witten is fine. Bledsoe just seems more comfortable with Johnson and Glenn.

I really wouldnt advise him to go into Parcells' office and start asking what his role is on the team. From what I have seen, that doesnt work out to well for the player.

This was just a really good defense so it is tough to get everyone the ball. Witten is also going to have to accept the fact that he is a super star and teams will scheme for him.

How come it's OK for Witten to demand the ball, but when players like Keyshawn and T.O do it , they're branded selfish? just wondering

Mike I usually agree with what you say, but this time I have to go the other way. I wouldn't go into BPs office and moan, but he is our only pro-bowler. Teams schemed for Emmitt. They schemed for Irvin, but these guys still made plays. Thats what super stars do, they find a way to make plays. Witten feels he can make plays, but the balls aren't comin his way. Hes and JJ are the youngest offensive stars we have and should carry the load for us. He doesn't have to make 80 yard catches, he has to move the chains. Thats what he does. He doesn't have sweet feet, how many TEs do. They make the chain moving catches and keep the defense off balance. Our young stars will carry this team and it seems only JJ is getting that chance. IMO, from a talent standpoint, the passing read progression should be as followed, #1 - Witten, #2 - Glenn, #3 Crayton, #4 Price, #5 Johnson/RB.

I know, i know, I have Key at 5, but he essentially Witten at WR and I trust Witten to get open more and faster than Johnson. Glenn has big play ability and a past with Bledsoe. Crayton just catches everything, but must learn to run low. Price another big play type of player and Johnson/RB check down guy. You can't do it this way, because a Qb must go through the reads and that order won't always happen, but my point is Witten is the play maker in the passing game with youth, so he should get the most opportunities. Especially with the offensive philosophy we are playing. Short passes and too conservative.
