In this 46 scheme it will serve him well for his original position. We now have faster OLB's that could cover.

In the 4-6 package he probably will play DE, so good call.

But make no mistake about it, our base defense is a 3-4 still

This seems to be Ellis' last year no matter what, 12 years is a fine career but I expect him to lose his starting spot by midseason if not training camp.

Time to move Ellis off the team

Edit: That's what you get when you try to reply at 5am. lol

Despite his ******ing and complaining, Ellis is still the 3rd best pass rusher on this team until Spencer or any of the new kids show anything.

I'm not big on dumping a guy who can get the Cowboys a half-dozen sacks in a part-time role.

And Ellis may have the best all-around technique... Ware does it with incredible athletic ability and Ratliff does it with quickness, but Ellis has a nice variety of moves. If I recall, he has always been willing to work with the younger guys like Spencer and Canty.

Unless the cap space is needed, I want Greg Ellis on this team in 2009.

At this point in his career, he is nothing more then a situational pass rusher. He was getting blown off of the ball on a regular basis as the season wore on. He just can't play the run any more.

Based on his salary to contribution ratio...he needs to be cut prior to the year starting.

Trade him to Buffalo for Rosco Parrish... Throw in a 5th....

This will be Ellis last season here.

Brandon Victor looks like he projects to LOLB so he will be Greg and Anthony Spencers backup.

Brandon Williams looks more like a ROLB.

i hope we just get rid of this guy...i just really dis like him

If Spencer can't put Ellis on the bench for good, he's a huge 1st round bust.

Why?

Ellis is still a heck of a player.

Everyone wants to cut the guy but be careful what you wish for.

Ellis opposite of Ware has been a success.

This is true. If Spencer can take his job fine. If he can't Ellis still has real value getting after the passer.

Exactly right.

It really doesn't matter the "fans" think of Greg Ellis.

It only matters what his teammates, coaches and the Jones think about the guy and since Ellis is still on the roster (as per J. Jones) I think the writing is pretty clear.

For me, I don't dislike him, however, it is time to move on. Whether we have a great season or not, it is time to bring new blood and attitude (good) on the team. Hungry young guys that have talent and want to really play. I have no problem even if they were to find a way to let him go before the season started. I will take my chances with Spencer and the draft choices. At some point you have to know when to say when. I believe we are at that point.
