For the past 55 hours I and many of you have been following the Cowboys FA moves. It seems like with the Cowboys passing on Livings (or vice versa), the first wave has ended for the team.

So what now? Will there be a second wave before the draft? If so, where should we focus? I think the team may visit with another blocking TE and WR candidates to compete for #3. But other than that I'd relax until the draft.

Veteran center maybe something we bring in. Heck the way stephen Jones is talking nothing would surprise me at this point. How bout a replacemant for alan ball?

We need to find 2 to 3 more CB's before the season starts, so maybe we see a move there?

Possibly more OL depth?

A new TE candidate to replace Bennett?

Stay tuned.. the Cowboys arn't done yet. :)

The TE crop is so thin. Not much I like out there, a lot of the available players are over the hill. Might be something we target later in the draft.

Sadly, no one we get will be as good as Bennett was. He really was underappriciated around here. If only we would have used him in the passing game a bit more, he might have resigned here instead of going to the Giants.

Best Blocking TEs available:
  • Daniel Fells
  • Joel Dreesen
  • Jim Kleinsasser
  • Leonard Pope
  • Billy Bajema
  • John Gilmore
  • Stephen Spach
  • Anthony Becht

Yea, not much to pick from off that list. I think we have to address backup TE in the draft at this point.

Well there are better TEs available than that, those are just generally looked at as the role the Bennett played. I like Dreesen.
  • Dallas Clark
  • Visanthe Shiancoe
  • Bo Scaife
  • Jacob Tamme
  • Randy McMichael
  • Jeremy Shockey

No matter who we bring in, there's going to be a talent drop off. Bennett was probably the best blocking TE in the NFL and is young and an athletic freak. Why we didn't look to him downfield more often to take advantage of mismatches or go to him alot more often in the red zone is a mystery to me. Throw him a few more passes and he's still here right now. I must rue.

If he's caught more, maybe . . . . . . . . . . . .

Exactly the reason I wanted him back.

Hard Knocks really killed Marty B. IMO, for the fans at least.

I was surprised he only got 1 year $2.5 mil and we couldn't get him.

How's Shiancoe at blocking? I don't know much about him but always thought he was decent... old though.

Yeah, center and CB are the ones that still have something left, especially center.

I really hope they bring at least one of those centers in, there are a couple of them that would start for us immediately like Satele. There are also a couple of CBs that would beat out Ball, and would make some nice additions like Porter and Middleton.

TE and WR have been picked pretty clean, just letting us know how much of a passing league it has become.

Agree we'll certainly miss Marty B. He's pretty much the Spencer of the offense. People think he sucks just because he doesn't have flashy numbers, but he he's a great blocker and quite honestly our run game will suffer without him. Seeing him sign with our rival hurts because he's probably gonna explode.

Early Doucet at WR.
Tracy Porter at CB.
Kendall Langford at DE.

Would like to see one of these 3 guys signed. Garrett said we are not looking at TE's in FA since Davis signed with Chicago.

I think we sign 1 more guy before the draft.

He had chances to explode and failed. I think what we fan's see on game days, the coaches saw everyday in practice. Lot's of potential, just didn't translate to the field.

There is a reason he only got a 1 year deal.

BS. The guy was not fitting in and was more trouble then he was worth. The reason his blocking got so much ink was because of how bad the O line was. Improve that and it does not become that important.
The guy dropped way too many of the ones that came his way. Romo did not trust him for good reasons.

Good riddance

Bennett got a one-year contract at less than $2 million. I'm pretty sure that if we had wanted to bring him back we could have. Something tells me that our coaching staff isn't nearly as concerned about his loss as you appear to be. Any chance they're operating on the basis of superior information?

I'm hoping that they pick up a TE in the mid rounds of the draft. Look what NE did with Gronk and Hernandez. There ought to be someone later in the draft that doesn't derail us from our early round plans.

Nah.. he didn't want to come back here.. that was obvious by his comments. He wasn't going to sign here even if we offered more than the 2.5 million. He wants to start and he wants to get a chance to be involved in the passing game. We didn't give him that here.
