After losing starting Left Tackle Flozell Adams and often used Wide Receiver Patrick Crayton many people have already counted out the Cowboys against the Seahawks this Sunday. Well I know one guy who is definitely not thinking in this manner and he just so happens to know a thing or two about football. Coach Parcells won't say it out loud, but I am guessing he wants to beat the Seahawks in convincing fashion and prove to the NFL that the Cowboys are back amongst the elite teams.
Fifty three men are going to put on a Cowboy uniform this Sunday at Qwest Field and Coach Parcells wants every one of them to be able to contribute if necessary. If there is one thing Coach Parcells preaches to his teams it's that the season is not a marathon but a sprint. This means there are going to be ups and downs along the way, but the elite teams will tough it out and win no matter what obstacles are thrown in front of them. If Torrin Tucker comes out and shuts down Grant Winstrom, Peerless Price has a break out game and Tyson Thompson runs for 100 yards we just might see Coach Parcells smiling until he's back at practice next Wednesday.
The first six games of 2005 have been very interesting for the Cowboys. Team owner Jerry Jones made a good point last week when he remarked about how the team has already had a few trials in tribulations so early in the season. They have been in so many close games so far and have been finding ways to win, this is the mark of a great football team.
As of right now there is no dominant side of the ball for the Cowboys. At times the offense looks spectacular and at other times the defense looks spectacular. Now the Cowboys have only been able to do this on both sides of the ball in one game and luckily it was against the Eagles. Maybe, just maybe this week the Cowboys will use these injuries to key players as a catalyst to play great on both sides of the ball against the Seahawks.
Besides, I think Torrin Tucker and Peerless Price have played some football in the past. Even if Julius Jones can't go in this one the Cowboys do have enough talent behind him to run the ball effectively. Who knows, maybe we just see a more focused Cowboys team out there this Sunday.
In my opinion, I don't think Flozell Adams was playing all that great anyway. So far this season he had a few costly penalties and also allowed some key sacks. He has never been the most consistent player and at times you wondered if he was over rated because he played next to Larry Allen all these years. I will even go so far as to say 50% of the Cowboy's fans I know do not see the switch from Adams to Tucker as a negative.
Add to the mix that many Cowboy's fans have been clamoring to see Peerless Price since he signed with the Cowboys and some might even say that the Cowboys are in better shape than they were seven days ago. Now the Julius Jones situation is a little different, but that's not to say I haven't heard some fans say that Tyson Thompson is quicker to the hole.
I guess what I am trying to say is that just because a player isn't in the starting lineup doesn't mean he can't help the team win football games. This Sunday in Seattle whichever fifty three players are healthy enough to come out of the tunnel will just have to tighten up the laces and go get that fifth win. Bring on the Seahawks.
Go Cowboys!
