Pretty sure FO doesn't have a drop-dead date for making a decision to keep, restructure or release Dez. Just trying to get a feel for anyone guess on how soon we'll know for sure he'll be on 2018 team. Maybe hear something at beginning of free agency period or during the draft. I do think it safe to say if we hear nothing and he reports to first offseason program mid-April, he's not going anywhere.

I'm guessing any restructuring or pay cut will happen before or right after the start of the free agency using his extra money to sign other players. Likewise, any trade would almost def happen closer to the draft. That said, I doubt they'll let report to any offseason programs and risk injury if he's now part of 2018 plans.

BTW: Just notice initial tag designation is Feb 20, just a couple days away.

Offseason Schedule

February 20: First day clubs can utilize franchise, transition tags

February 27 - March 5: NFL Scouting Combine

March 6: Deadline to name franchise, transition tag players

March 12 - March 14: NFL Free Agency opens (Talks can begin March 12 but can not enter into a contract until 4pm EST on March 14)

April 16: Cowboys can begin voluntary offseason workouts

April 20: Deadline for Restricted Free Agents to Sign Offer Sheets

April 26 - April 28: The 2018 NFL Draft

May 4 - May 7, May 11 - May 14: Clubs can hold three-day post-Draft rookie minicamp

May 17 - 20: NFLPA Rookie Premiere (Invite Only)

Negotiations will probably go all summer...with a few players.

I can see march, 2018. that will give him enough time to try and work out a deal with another team.

What a stupid thread ......... the only people talking about getting rid of Dez are people who have no involvement with the Cowboys organization.

There is no timetable for something that is not happening.

Thanks for the schedule.

A decision will be made some time after the draft. We may know by draft day. If the Cowboys take a WR in the first round Dez is likely gone.

Guess you missing Stephen Jones interview of Dez distraction, Dez making a lot of money and wrapping their heads together to figure out what to do. Zero intention of getting rid Dez......just when we as fans can say he's safe.

Dez isnt going anywhere. Jerruh will make sure of it

He may not go anywhere but if push comes to shove Stephen could convince Jerry to move on from Dez. Listening to some of the comments Stephen has made about Dez he doesn’t sound on board with him. Jerry wanted to bring TO back but reports were Stephen talked him out of it. Stephen doesn’t always see things exactly the way Jerry does. If the Cowboys can’t find an adequate replacement for Dez I don’t see him going anywhere.

They could wait until after training camp. They have enough cap flexibility even if they Tag DLaw to wait.

My guess is that they make a decision after the draft.

Most likely Stephen will be in favor of cutting him and Jerry will prefer to keep him. Sometimes Stephen wins (Martin over Manziel) and sometimes Jerry forces the issue (The original contract for Dez that was way more than Stephen wanted to give him).

If that’s the case, Dak may be the tiebreaker.

I imagine the TO decision was similar with Jerry wanting him and Stephen wanting him gone but since Romo wanted him gone as well—it was an easy decision.

Have you heard the FO specifically state that Dez WILL be in Dallas next season?

Stephen may have been setting up his argument to Jerry in the interview where he said Dez is not what Dak needs.

I think Jerry believed TO was still a good player but realized he was not a good fit with Romo.
