Timeout Use

Anyone else wonder what was going on when Dallas started burning timeouts with 4 minutes left after Charles just got about 5 yards on 1st down? Then kept using them as soon as possible? Garrett gets to be the game manager so that had to be his decision... just trying to figure out why. I mean if Charles only got 1 or 2 yards sure, do it. After a large gain on 1st down though? Completely befuddled.

Can't believe this is still being asked. You have to burn those timeouts to have enough time to get the ball back. That's called trust your defense to stop them meanwhile use your timeouts to preserved time on the clock. The defense didn't do it's job.

When the game is down to possibly one possession, you don't save your timeouts, you use them. The only danger in using them that soon was that if we got the ball back and scored quickly, we might leave them too much time. But given how our offense was not producing big plays, the likelihood that we would score too quickly was not high.

If not for the PI call on Claiborne, it would have worked very well. We would have gotten the ball back with more than 2 minutes left.

I had no problem with the first timeout but after the first down, should not have called a time out then. You had two, see what happens on first down and take it from there.

As Madden used to say, if you take your timeouts on defence, you better stop them and we didn't so we lost.

If they didn't use them the clock would have been run out a lot sooner.

Blame the defence. They knew Charles was coming at them and they couldn't stop him.

I dont remember how much time exactly was left when the Chiefs took over, but I do remember thinking that we could use one timeout, have the two minute warning before they punted, and get the ball back with like 1:50 and two timeouts, which I think I would have preferred.

On 1st down when they get a 5 yard chunk with 4 minutes left, why use it there? The probability of holding them to a 3 and out is not that great. If it was 2nd and 8 or worse then sure, use it. 2nd and 5 with 4 minutes left? Absolutely unnecessary time out, WAY too risky.

Yep, blame the defense. That's probably a good idea. They will step up and shoulder the blame for sure.

Because when you need the ball back in order to score, you don't want to let any time run off the clock. The ONLY reason not to use it then is if you think your offense would score too quickly, and the chances of that were remote.

I thought the defense did well and the PI CALL ultimately screwed our chances.

plus it was a questionable call. hard to blame Mo on that one, 9 out of 10 times that goes uncalled.

The way the offense was playing late in the 4th, I am not so sure they would even get far enough to attempt a game-winning FG. It was not a given that we would have drove down and win. Another good punt could have pinned us down inside the 10, who knows. Would have been nice to get that chance though :(
