This past Monday, here at Valley Ranch we were so delighted, humbled and touched to finally meet seven-year-old Timothy Brookshire of Lenoir, N.C.

Timothy, by every standard, is a miracle child, who continues to overcome the odds of his medical conditions, earning him the nickname “Tinman.” Before Timothy was even born, his parents John and Crystal were told their son would have complications “incompatible with life” and that he would only have a few days to live. Timothy came into the world with a rare heart defect, cleft lip and pallet and a chromosomal disorder called Trisomy 16, but by some miracle the Tinman defied his own life expectancy.

In September 2013, Timothy was thrown another hurdle when he was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis, considered a rare form of cancer. Today Timothy continues to fight this disease along with his birth defects, recently undergoing his 58thsurgery.

As much as we all love the game, the added bonus is that these sports figures can be role models to kids such as Timmy. They all need hope and inspiration to fight their personal battles and it's always uplifting to see their lives changed when the team you support can impact them in such a way.

It's a blessing to have a job that can effect the lives of others. This is why it's so important to do the right thing off the field, as well as on. As much as Timmy has received from the Cowboys, the Cowboys can learn something from him as well. Namely, what it means to have courage and perseverance.

Wishing the little tyke nothing but good news as he continues to fight his battles.

And we all think we're tough. Fighting thru weight problems, work issues, pesky neighbors, car problems, inclement weather, traffic, girlfriends, etc.

This child makes us all look like wussies. He's a true Ironman, IMO.

You've gotta take your hat off to this kid and Romo as well. It's a blessing for both of them to have each other.
Most of us take our health and life pretty much for granted. Stories like this serve to help us appreciate how blessed we are to be so fortunate. Let's hope this kid finds his way to the health and happiness he deserves.
