Even on a 13-3 team, I guess it's human nature to look for weak links.

Watching Roy and Julius this season has been frustrating.

Julius will be wasting downs for a different team next year, but I think Roy will have to stick around. Bless his heart, he's a shell of his former self.

Let me ask all of you arm chair QBs a question.

If you immediately see your Pro Bowl H-Back, in this case Chris Cooley, matched up one on one with a Strong Safety, wouldn't you try to exploit that matchup.

Roy Williams is lousy in coverage but I gurantee you any QB worth his salt is going to throw to his Tight End/Wide Receiver everytime he sees him covered by a Strong Safety.

Roy Williams is back next year, you guys really need to come to grips with this fact.

Roy and JJ are just a couple of unaccountable, immature players. I'd love it if the Cowboys got rid of them both in the offseason and upgraded.

Just throw a #31 jersey on a Hoover vacuum and park it somewhere in the secondary. It'd be equally as adept as Roy in coverage - and at sucking up huge piles of undeserved money.

Do you actually believe that?

Folks, Roy Williams is a solid player. I don't think he is playing at a Pro Bowl level, but he is solid.

Also, I am making your quote my new sig line :).

Plus the occasional opponent would get hurt from running into it... unlike the last couple years.

How many of you Roy basher's understand that we were playing vanilla defense and rushing 4 all day? I don't think we ran a blitz once to get pressure, and the Commanders, especially on their 3rd and longs, were going max protect. We got pretty good pressure despite our basic vanilla defense, and rushing just 4.

Do you think Wade is going to allow this come play-off time? The point is, the Commanders coaches were doing everything to win, while our coaches weren't. Gibbs obviously respected our pass rush enough to bring in extra protection, despite us rushing only 4, and many of the 1st downs they got were actually a result of too much time we allowed because of our basic vanilla.

We ultimately wore out, but it is clear from the coaching standpoint, that Dallas wasn't showing anything. You can't really evaluate individual players until you go basic. Scheming will disguise what you are essentially trying to evaluate.

While Jacques Reeves clearly can't cover a receiver for than .2 milliseconds,
the reason the Commanders sustained drives was precisely because we didn't really care about stopping the Commanders and were more concerned with going through the motions.

Hell, we had Miles Austin for 3 TDs. Our second offense could have scored at will on SMoot, who gave up, what, close to 60 yards on Sam Hurd alone on 3 catches, and Miles AUstin, if Brad Johnson didn't have a noodle arm, and AUstin didn't drop a TD, would have had like 100 yards on Smoot, with at least 2 TDs.

They were shooting fireworks here in DC, like they won the Super Bowl.

I was just experiencing an absurdist moment. Roy really is a fairly solid SS - but he's being paid to be a great one.

I simply resent the compensation he receives for the level of play he has exhibited the past couple seasons. He has shown that he is capable of much more than he is currently delivering.

I know you are just being sarcastic, but it was funny.

But let me ask you question.

Don't most players get paid for what they accomplished in the past?

Isn't that the gamble Jerry Jones or any General Manager is making when they extend a guys contract? That he won't play at the level you have seen him in the past?

Has Roy had better seasons? Yes, of course he has. Does he struggle in coverage? You bet, most Strong Safeties do.

Yes, of course MOST players played themselves into their current contract.

But there simply is no excuse for Roy's post-contract dropoff. He hasn't suffered any major injuries and he's only 27 and should be entering his "prime" years of contribution. So why isn't he the "catalytic player" he showed us his first three years?

I maintain it's either a lack of commitment, discipline, or both.

He is second only to the Middle Linebacker in tackles.

He is 4th on the team in interceptions, which 2 of the 3 ahead of him are Pro Bowlers.

Yes, Roy Williams should be playing better, if you base it off of his history, but the guy is still solid.

Again, Roy Williams is not being paid to be "solid" - he's being paid to be "Roy Williams", the oft-spectacular player we fell in love with over his first three seasons. And that guy is currently AWOL.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Roy Williams needs to improve, but I think the guy is solid.

He is surrounded by much better and more experienced players then he was in 2002-2005, so he is not going to stand out as much.
