Is the Sheriff Goodell a former Commander? Im sure this will be swept under the rug with the Pats cheating.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal. The Titans were not going to pay him and the Commanders stepped up (and IMO overpaid for him a little).

If the Commanders had undermined the Titans or "stole" him away then I could understand their irritation but the whole world knew they were not going to pay Haynesworth the money he wanted so why is this a big deal?

As long as the Commanders and Haynesworth's agent did not flaunt that they had a deal beforehand, it's non issue to me.

Titans seek tampering evidence against Commanders

The Tennesse Titans are interested in pursuing tampering charges against the Washington Commanders, who agreed to terms with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth just five hours into the NFL free agency period. Jim Wyatt reports in the Nashville Tennessean that the big question is whether the Titans come up with enough evidence against the Commanders to make a good case to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

One blogger forecast a $100 million deal and much was made of a meeting between Commanders owner Daniel Snyder and agent Chad Speck, who represents Haynesworth, at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis a week before free agency, which began Feb. 16 at 11 p.m. Central.

Asked if the Commanders tampered, Haynesworth said: "I don't think so. Yeah, Chad told me he met with the Commanders at the combine, but they were talking about Malcolm and how he could become the next Andre Johnson and stuff like that.

"All I know is the Commanders called my agent at 11:04 Nashville time and they started negotiating then. They weren't anywhere close in the first couple of hours and then they got serious. Chad worked the deal then and it worked out.''
Were they not convicted of that a few years ago under gibbs?:star:

If the skins have not gotten in trouble the last 5 years for tampering, I doubt they do now. I mean really does the NFL not think they have been tampering when there have been times that some huge complicated contract has been signed the morning that FA starts. Most contracts do not get done that fast.

But at the same time it is not like they are the only ones that tamper.

It has been going on for years.

The only thing that might change is if the "tough" commish finally says enough is enough but I seriously doubt it happens.

The only way I see this as a big deal is if the Titans were seriously negotiating with him and lets say they were offering him the same deal the Commanders were but only $90M & $35M garanteed.

The Titans are SUPPOSED to be the only team talking to big Al and maybe he was thinking of taking a deal like that UNTIL....

A little conversation with Danny Boy a week before FA begins and him saying we can better that deal.....$100M w/ $40M garanteed.

That is of course all hypothetical, but I could see how it could undermine what the Titans were doing as far as negotiations.

Of course after saying all that, nothing will happen.

Considering that Haynesworth was a candidate for DPOY I cannot imagine him taking a deal with the Titans without at least testing the free agent waters.

That being said, if the Titans really wanted him back, they could have franchised him instead of someone else. However, as I said, the whole sports world knew that Haynesworth would be available.

The Titans could have also signed him to an extension a year ago like the Cowboys are trying to do with Ware. Everything points to the Titans not wanting to pay Haynesworth what the market would pay him.

If some other team was really interested in Haynesworth, such as the Buccaneers, then I could see them having a valid complaint. However, I see no valid argument for the Titans since they had their chances.

I agree with you on all accounts, but that was just an analogy out there where I could see this being an issue.

The Titans couldn't franchise him again, it was part of the deal of him signing the franchise tender last year that they could not franchise him again.

Who knows what was going on behind the scenes though.

Again.....nothing will come of this.

Dont get too excited guys, I highly doubt the league is going to do anything to the Commanders.

I agree, but I love the thought.

The penalty wouldn't fit the crime.

I think the penalty is lost draft picks......That organization doesn't know how to use them anyway.

It's going to be near impossible to prove the Commanders did anything other than what every team has always done when it comes to those first few huge FA signings with in a little bit of the FA period beginning.

We probably won't see anything come from this.
