tivo - I am a moron

just bought it this weekend and cannot get it hooked up correctly.

I have a motorola cable box going to 57 inch toshiba tv and tosiba dvr/tivo box.
Cant get the main menu to come up?
Is there anyone out there with the expertise to assist- would be greatly appreciated?
