So, my Tivo HD of 2 years HD died on my parents 2 days ago. I just bought a new 1TB harddrive, had to buy an instantcake since I kept putting off making a copy of the current one, and will be installing that today. I hope it works. We got Lifetime Sub on it when we first got it from Sears on clearance for $99 (So total around $400). If it doesn't work anymore, we'd still have paid less than $15/month.

As much as I hate spending the money, needless to say,Tivo is so awesome, and will give as little money to Comcast as possible.

worked like a charm! It was a great upgrade investment. Went from like 20 hours of HD recording to 80 hours or something like that.

It was really easy, only had one hiccup, but found support for that on the forums for instantcake. I love the internet for allowing non-pros like me to fix things.

If anyone is in the market for a 40+ inch tv, Amazon is having a great deal where if you buy one of their selected tv, you can get $200 off an tivo premiere or tivo premiere XL (so basically free tivo premiere or $170 XL version).

Our living room TV is only a 32'' (originally bought 1.5 years ago for about $320), and my dad has been scouring and wanting a bigger one. So, I got the 42'' LG for $522, plus the free tivo premiere. Not sure if I'm going to keep the premiere (will probably add lifetime sub to it if we do), or sell it NIB for around $180, or also sell the 32'' as well, which will bring the final price of the 42'' LG to closer around $150-200.
