Dallas Cowboys: Sizing Up The Titans Offense

Week One was worth forgetting, as the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Tony Romo had a poor showing against the San Francisco 49ers at home. The beautiful thing is it was only the first game, and there are still 15 more for the Cowboys and Romo to redeem themselves.
The first up on the Dallas Cowboys’ redemption tour is the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans came away victorious in Week 1 as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 26-10. No Chris Johnson, no problem for Tennessee as starting running back Shonn Greene ran for 71 yards on 15 carries. And Titan’s quarterback Jake Locker threw for two touchdowns in the winning effort.
So what should the Cowboys expect to see on Sunday when they put on their navy blue jerseys and head to Tennessee?
First off, don’t get too skittish – it’s still just Locker under center. Dallas doesn’t have to face a premiere quarterback in Week 2. For his career, Locker only has a 57% completion rating and he’s probably not going to light the Cowboys up like other passers could possibly do throughout the course of the 2014 season.
And it’s not like he has elite weapons to throw to, so the Dallas secondary has a chance to have a decent week. In order on the depth chart, the Titans’ receivers are listed like this: (1) Nate Washington & Kendall Wright, (2) Derek Hagan & Justin Hunter, (3) Kris Durham & T.J. Graham. Are you scared at all?
Tennessee’s running backs are nothing to write home about either. Greene last made an impact for a team in 2012, when he was with the New York Jets. Considering the switch to a by-committee system pretty much across the entire NFL, he may never put up big numbers again.
Backing him up is rookie Bishop Sankey, who had a total of six carries last week. That’s right, six. That’s amazing, considering the Titans were ahead and trying to run down the clock last week against Kansas City. It makes me wonder when or if he’ll be used Sunday.
Probably the Titans’ biggest strength is their offensive line. Locker has some big, talented boys protecting him in Andy Levitre, Chance Warmack and Michael Oher for starters. This will be a huge test for the Cowboys make-shift defensive front. The Titans’ skill players are nothing to write home about, but with the time this line can afford Locker and the holes they can open up, if the likes of Henry Melton, Terrell McClain and George Selvie can’t get to the quarterback, it doesn’t matter how mediocre Tennessee’s offense seems, they’ll have a big day...
