This week the Dallas Cowboys are hosting the undefeated Denver Broncos. In listening to the media all week the only thing you hear is Peyton Manning. Let me begin by saying that for several years now I have said Peyton is the best Quarterback I have ever seen. I remember many years ago, prior to the Indianapolis Colts winning their Super Bowl that I got into a discussion with a fellow Cowboys fan (Author added line...This was right here on CZ with Cowboy Chris. Thanks for the inspiration.) about Peyton. He felt that he was a gifted player who was a born loser. I felt his story wasn’t written yet and it was too soon to call the guy a loser. I say the same of every player.

Which brings me to Tony Romo, the lightning rod QB of the Cowboys. Is he in Peyton’s league? No. No one is. Not even Tom Brady, and believe me I really like Brady. The thing that sets Peyton Manning apart is his mind. Basically he is a human football computer. At 6’5″ he is tall enough to see every part of the field regardless of who is in front of him, and he is deadly accurate. In many ways it is a shame that his younger brother has more Super Bowl rings than he does, because quite frankly he isn’t in Peyton’s league either.

Eli is definitely not in Peyton's league. I'm pretty sure he'd say that himself.

Most Giants fans that I know (live in NY) are deranged.

I am having a very good time with Giants fans (here in NY) this year - 90% of which are now concentrating on the baseball playoffs and hockey - lol.

Great post Hos, and nice to see the avatar back! ;)

While I don't want anybody to get hurt, I wouldn't mind seeing us knock Peyton out of this game. Just for this game. The NFL needs Peyton.

I agree with some, he's definitely one of the best to ever play the position...however, I have to lean towards the opinion that you tried to negate....I think Peyton has some jinx or choke in him when the game gets really big. I think he's actually fortunate to have the lone ring he has....by getting to play one of the worst ever SB opponents with Rex Grossman at QB.
As for comparison's to Brady it doesn't necessarily start and end with how the Patriots owned Peyton's Colts for a decade....(which they did and have multiple rings and SB appearances to show for it) but I look at the weapons Brady has had versus the weapons Peyton had. One of Brady's best weapons at WR, who was also a SB MVP (Branch), was so average that they let him walk the following season and plugged in someone else. Then, once Brady got weapons on par with what Peyton had for years (Moss and Welker compared to Harrison, Wayne, and Clark), Brady set all kinds of records and went 16-0 and a helmet velcro catch from finishing 19-0. I'm not saying Peyton has to have weapons to succeed, I'm saying that given a relatively equal set of tools, Brady has done more, lots more. As as for head to head, sure Brady had a better defense most of those years the Pats owned the Colts in the playoffs, but that was also long before Brady had any decent weapons to throw to. I can understand the temptation by many to say that Peyton is the all-time greatest QB of all time, but frankly he wouldn't even be my number one pick right now, let alone all-time. If Denver runs away with the Super Bowl this year, then I'll revisit this debate and reevaluate, but right now I'd pick Brady over Peyton by a landslide.
Yes it is truly a shame that Eli has double the rings that Peyton has as the only time Eli looks good is against us in the 4th quarter. Most of the rest of the season he truly stinks. Personally, I'd even take Romo over Eli, however I'd also take the rings and Eli over Romo and one playoff win but I digress.
What's truly sickening...is that we could've had Peyton for about the money we just paid Romo.

No one is in Peyton's league. He's the best ever.

I disagree but whatever..I prefer tom brady but that's just me..tom brady was drafted late..and is MUCH more of an underdog so I love his story better...I have no idea why he gets all the hate..I bet if he was ugly like the manning brothers and southern more people would like him.

I'm not so sure about that. Peyton's Indy teams were actually pretty weak. This team he is on now is far superior then any of those Indy team, outside of RB. He made Indy that good. He willed them to victories. They had two bookend rushers, undersized, and two outstanding wideouts. Outside of that, they were pretty weak. It just shows you what Peyton actually can do to a team.

The thing I love about the Brady story is that he was barely top dog at Michigan. LLLLoyd Carr promised Henson playing time and sacrificed Brady for him.

IDK, the Oline was pretty good for awhile and Dallas Clark was a good pass catching TE until he hurt his hand (?) around 2009/2010. Rhodes and Addai had a good combo year of the SB and before that he had Edge who was also a damn good RB. I think he had more around him than people believe.

One of my friends is a Colts fans. He thinks Peyton is the best player ever but his opinion is Manning had a horrible playoffs andha SB tt year and they only won because the defense stepped up.
