The growth of this defense is very important to this upcoming defense.

In Super Bowls, matching up the NFL's top defense against the top Offense, the record is 2-2.

One factor that will be showing is the development of coaching and then player leadership.

Here is a relevant snapshot of team building on the leadership levels:

Now comes the time for hours upon hours of meetings to mesh with the rest of the defensive staff. And soon after that, his players. First and foremost, Linguist is concerned with nourishing relationships.

"When you look at player-coach relationship, everything begins with ultimate trust. Trust is built over consistency and time. You can be a great player; I can be a great coach. If we don't trust each other, nothing else matters," Linguist said.

And as far as his mantra or mentality he plans to instill in the safeties and nickel players (defensive backs coach Al Harris will work more with the corners), Linguist says, "You have to have your mental approach and build your fundamentals. You have to have your scheme intact. You have to be great technicians. You want to make sure our football IQ is where it needs to be, a smarter player is always a better player. And then you want to be disruptive at the point of attack."

I don’t care about names

names without wins is meaningless...just win games with whoever we got

Until we get DT's that can make plays consistently and not take chunk of plays off, our 2 former elite LB's play like they care, and the secondary actually do something other than follow the guy they are covering instead of actually making impact plays. And oh ya, coaches who actually coach.

Boys fans over value their own players. Maliek Collins is good/not great. Antwaun Wood is good/not great. Byron Jones is good/not great etc....

Let them go. They'll get big contracts and then they will generally underperform. (see DeMarcus Lawrence)

There's only ONE FA that Dallas should've FOUGHT to retain over the past few years, Ronald Leary. This upcoming draft should be defense, period.

JMO but pretty good. The new coaching staff will improve their performance. McCarthy will (I think he already has taken notice) address the S and DT positions. In September they may not be a top 10 defense. But by mid-season I expect them to be.

as far as streamlining that defense will take us. get a safety, turn some things around and get that line going after the QB again, can go far. hopefully a few changes are made on D and we can get back to bringing the D in Big D. but each facet will effect the other. Garretts team rarely ran on all cylinders but when they did they were something to behold. If MM can get all cylinders running at the same time, the team is hard to beat. htey key is to fixing the team as a whole, not just one part. MM has a lot of work to do.

Partly true, but the real devastation occurs when the dysfunctional FO overvalues and over pays for marginal talent like Woods & Collins, who are good rotational players if kept on cheap contracts. Don't even get me started on the Zeke and Jaylon blunders....Mccarthy please bail us out.

Grab a couple of players and coach these guys up. Seriously the year before last they played bad in 2 games, unfortunately one was the rams game. Last year shouldn’t have been that bad. I think the confusion of who the DC was made problems. And the whole team knew JG was gone.

I expect a new scheme and attitude will make a world of difference. As long as they keep Lawrence, Quinn, Armstrong, Collins and/or Woods, they can double down at DT and DE. Then double down at S and CB.

The first thing was getting the proper coaches in place – the better coaches know how to place their best players in best position to make plays and excel. They know how to play discipline within them and scheme them to the best of their abilities, and they have a way of adjusting, and counter-scheming vs opposition,

the 2nd work is getting the necessary players for these coaches. This is where McClay and Stephen come into play this offseason. - be it FA draft or trade.

Imo, our 4 biggest flaws of this defense is:
1 Physicality – Bigger, stouter, stronger at point of attack and hitters that set the tone; under Marinelli teams simply “out-physical “ us even as Jerry termed it.
2 Lack of pass rush - it was really Quinn ..and nothing else. No Dlaw, Bennett, Hyder, Armstrong or Maliek. Gotta have more different makers upfront.
3 Lack of turnovers – who consistently forces fumbles and INTs on this team ? - and we need a boat load of these guys, not just one
4 Leadership - Lee was our leader for years, now with him at the end of his career, who takes over that chore ? Jaylon? .. Dlaw ? ..LVE ?

depends.....but we have a hole at DT, a bust looking draft pick, holes at Saftey and may lose two of top 3 CBs and the RDE is unsettled.....and a new scheme.....not sure what to expect, depends on the draft and FA....but top 10 is a huge stretch
