The X Review: TNA Lockdown 2011

Bottom Line: This was a rather disappointing show. For some reason or another, a lot of us expected this to be one of the better TNA PPVs in awhile, and while Jarrett vs. Angle did end up delivering, not much else here did. Morgan and Hernandez had another painfully horrid match, Mickie James inadvertantly single-handedly buried the entire Knockouts division in 30 seconds, and the four-way tag match really had no business being on PPV. Still, not everything was bad here. Jarrett and Angle had probably the best TNA match of the year thus far, the opener Xscape match wasn't half bad, Pope and Joe had a fairly good match, and the Lethal Lockdown was about as good as could have been expected. Two decent matches, one good one, and one great one is enough to outweigh the bad here though, so we'll still go with the Thumbs Up despite being a bit of a letdown overall as a show.

6 out of 10

Posting reviews of regular people's opinions of the show proves what?

Having watched it now, i'd say it was a good PPV overall. Certainly, as the one review stated, TNA doesn't come close to WWE production value, but no company really comes close in that dept. So factoring out the big oohs and ahhs from the lighting and pyro asthetics, the matches were mostly good ones. The Lethal Lockdown match went very well, as did Angle/Jarrett, Joe vs. Pope, and Hernandez vs. Morgan.

The championship match, as i said, was pretty awful imo, with it ending sooner than it should have, and some lazy and unorganized wrestling during the match. I wasn't impressed by the in ring work there at all. However, overall for 35 bucks i'd say viewers got more value than the 55 they paid for WM to watch Vince give his "little buddy" Michael Cole entirely too much face time for the biggest PPV of the year.

Its amazing how some the gimmicks in WWE can center around giving an announcer a prime time match that took up a considerable amount of time, and having a Real World tool as your champion. If it wasn't for Taker/HHH the entire PPV would have been pretty lousy.

I had forgotten about that one, but i did enjoy the Punk/Orten match as well.

The stuff with Cole.. i doubt it goes away any time soon though unfortunately. Vince seems to have a woody for Cole for some reason. Its the kind of corny, embarassing stuff that seems to draw ratings nowadays. Won't ever understand why, except that alot of young kids must tune into the program now.

People do not understand that this is just a way to bring back JR and not look like Cole is being demoted since Vince will need him again when JR has his next attack of BP.

Yes its horrible ..... yes its going on way to long.

But if it gets JR back in the announcers both then I am happy.

If this is the way that they decided was the best route to bring JR back, then their storywriting has gotten worse than i thought.

Honestly, its been going on for like half a year now, its more than just bringing JR back. McMahon loves him some Cole.

Vince doesn't write this stuff..but I guess if he wanted it to stop it would. It's more likely Stephanie and the other bookers that are responsible for the Cole/Lawler stuff..I have a different take on the whole thing.

I think they are trying to make Lawler look good. For all his years of service...so they put him into a feud with a guy that he could beat with his eyes closed but at the same time they bring in Swagger who he cannot possibly compete with anymore but he's just the sideline act.

Up till WM this year Lawler had never been in a WM and he's been wrestling for decades. I think it all revolves around making him look good...Cole is an arse and he's getting alot of heat. But as for now it's gone on for too long so it will be a good day when it is done.

I am not sure JR wants to come back fulltime. I have not read that. But that may be.

I'm shocked. Really. Shocked. That you won't go to another site outside of the one that agrees with you.

Shocking.

You can bet ur butt that Vince still has the last word in creative.. and its been widely rumored that he's in love with Cole. Im sure Cole does quite a bit of arse kissing.

Agree with me? I'm an elite member and they say absolutely NOTHING good about TNA during the audio shows, every week they have a post game show dissecting the flaws in logic in the show.

PWInsider is not PRO-Tna by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't know much about what Vince is doing these days..he was backstage @ WM and very involved but I am fairly certain the company is mainly being run by Stephanie/HHH nowadays..I never said Vince doesn't have the last word. He very well might but I do know he has stepped back considerably.

Maybe he's doing the Jerry/Jason.."it's Jason's team...he has the final say" and all that but everyone knows Jerry is the one with the checkbook and he's in charge.

I know Vince has the final say on stuff though...actually I think it's a very good thing that HHH has maintained a strong backstage presence for years. He is able to see things from both sides..management and the wrestlers.

No doubt that can only be a good thing if Vince doesn't completely ruin the product in the next few years.

I don't like McMahon, but the only thing he has ever ruined was smaller wrestling productions. Love him or hate him, he has the Midas touch.
