Aglenn seems to replace Tnewman as the corner on obvious passing downs.
Do the coaches believe Tnewman is the 3rd best DB.
It appears that way since he is moved down to cover the slot receiver.

I think Glenn is the nickle back. He's not replacing T New. At least I didn't see Newman come oout in those situations. Plus, Tnew had a pick. I don't think he is third best.

The post did't say he was replaced. He reads that Tnewman is moved to cover the slot receiver.

Norm covered this topic this morning. He made the comment that TN
seem to be the 3rd best DB in the coaches eyes.

TN as the 3rd best? That's stupid. He's moves to the slot since the slot is sometimes the hardest place to play. A lot of teams move their best receiver to the slot when they move to 3-wide sets. If the coaches see the guy as 3rd best then they would start Glenn. There were several articles on why Newman plays the slot during training camp. Let's try to keep up, ok?

I don't follow Norm's logic on this since Glenn is the one that comes off the bench, but I will say that I heard Chuck Cooperstein say something similar today. Either I didn't quite catch it all or he didn't finish his thought, but he said Parcells was talking about this in a "walk-off" with the media and Chuck got the idea that the coaches thought Newman was the third best corner.

Now that sounds silly to me, but that's what he said. I can't explain that unless it's -- yes -- Glenn being another "Parcells Guy".

I know owens plays the slot on 3rd down, as do lots of teams top wrs, so newman covering the slot man on 3rd down will often have him covering the opposing teams best wr.

HELLLOOOOO!!!! More mismatches in the SLOT!!! Sometimes the best receiver goes against the 3rd best corner, so with Newman in the slot, it gives us 3 solid guys to defend with. Plus, he is more physical to stop the quick slants.

yeah, that makes all sorts of sense doesnt it? thats why Newman is on the field for every single defensive play, because he's the 3rd best CB

the problem is that once the offense KNOWS who is gonna be where...it is easy to move your best (or speedster) around to get the match up you want.

Thats why you need to match up players not positions...guess we had to learn that one.
