To all those acting like the 2009 draft class would be our doom for years to come

You hear it all the time. "We keep suffering from the 2009 draft class", "It's the only reason we have to pay for free agents" blah blah.

Well look at this. Yet, the niners were able to sign two FAs in Carlos Rodgers (who's older and not as good as Carr and they've given big money too) and Whitner, and draft Aldon Smith and Bowman the year before, and make their defense elite.

Please stop acting like all teams don't have bad drafts and all teams don't participate in Free agency to supplement whatever shortcomings they have.

According to a source, Smith, an unrestricted free agent, told the 49ers in his exit interview in January that he was not interested in returning to the team, presumably because he knew his chances of starting were slim with Goldson on the roster. The 49ers made Goldson their franchise player, although he has yet to sign the tender. The top three safeties for 2012 appear to be Goldson, strong safety Donte Whitner and C.J. Spillman. Madieu Williams, who also is a free agent, could return.
Smith's departure means there is one fewer member of the 49ers' dubious 2008 draft class. The most productive member of that clas, receiver Joshua Morgan, signed with the Commanders last month. Two others, guard Chilo Rachal and linebacker Larry Grant, are free agents. Grant, a restricted free agent, probably will be back.

2009 was a bad to horrible draft for all the teams in the NFL. And I will swear to my grave that the Parcells 2006 draft in recent memory, maybe the Campo drafts were the worst. The basic strategy of the 2009 draft was not nearly as bad as the over emotional fans think, basically it was get quantity to see if you can get lucky through odds. I understand the special teams thing was an expectation not a proclamation.

Actually, that strategy sucks if you had guys targeted. If there is no value, then TRADE SOME FREAKING PICKS TO MOVE UP and get a few people you like.

Parcells had 2 drafts as bad as 2009.

2004 and 2006, that is the reason we had to hang on to declining veterans so long on the O-line.

You're right 2006 wasn't pretty either, but Hatcher is our best DE... although I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol.
