Honestly, are they intentionally tanking the season?

No, their QB situation is that bad and Manning covered up some deficiencies in their team and their overall system.

They don't have decent QBs in either Collins or Painter. There has been a huge dropoff between Manning and any backup he has had while in Indy. It is not only because Manning is so good. It is also because the backups during that time have been very bad.

The Colts are built to pass the ball and their defense is geared toward playing with a lead. Opposing defenses don't fear the run against the Colts and the passing game is not at all effective. Without Manning, the defense is hardly ever in a position where they can pin their ears back attack the QB as the opposition trails.

It is not a good team. QB is everything in the NFL and the Colts don't have one right now.

They have actually played hard and made some of these games close. They just suck without Manning.

I actually think they would have been average to mediocre even with Manning

I doubt average.

They've won double-digit games in all but one season since like 1999.

He's had two years of finishing less than .500

Rookie year and then 2001

Other than that, 10 games is their minimum during his tenure and that only happened 3 times.

8 seasons with a minimum of 12 wins.

I just don't see any way they come out with less than 10 wins.

They defense isn't as bad as it looks. The Colts are dead last in TOP. You put Manning out there and that changes pretty dramatically.

The Colts sputtered to 10 wins last year and their OL and defense is much worse this season. They were already falling apart before Manning got hurt.

Gives you an idea how good Peyton really is. No other QB could affect his team quite to that depth.

I don't get why they don't bring in Jim Sorgi. He backed up Peyton for many many years and seemed to be sufficient in driving the bus when they sat down their starters.

He probably knows that offense in and out.

The offensive coordinator was not expecting to work for his salary this year :D

#reality

Manning was also a huge factor in how their defense was constructed. Their defense was built around small and speedy guys to fly around the field, rush the passer and protect leads in shootouts.

The truth is I don't think they were finishing but 8-8 at best with Peyton. They were lucky to get to 10-6 last year. That team has been on a steady decline for a while thanks to bad drafting. Look at their 1st round draft picks ... Tony Ugoh, Duane Brown, Marlin Jackson, Anthony Gonzales, Jerry Hughes. They basically haven't had a decent draft since 2007.

Polian has done a terrible job the last 5 years or so. Bust after bust, no back-up plan at QB and put in place one of the worst coaching staffs in the league, Caldwell is a total joke. They won the SB in that time frame in spite of what Polian has done recently.

Tanking or not, if the Colts end up stumbling onto Luck after a decade or so Manning, i will always hate them.

I always love how a guy like Polian is held up like the poster boy of what a GM is suppose to be like and now the guy is dirt. :laugh2:

Could he be the first player to ever win MVP honors without ever playing a game? :)

Colts have always been my AFC team

told you there were going to get him

I love the fact that Polian IR ed Manning

knowing they be in the hunt for Luck

When did they place Manning on I.R.? I had not seen that news and NFL.com still has him on the Colts 53 man roster.

Colts could (and in fact, may) go 0-16 this year without Manning, and I would still predict a 10+ win season in 2012 if I knew Manning was back to 100%. You can't say that about any other player/team in the league. None.
