The Cowboys front office has shown no indication they want to move on from Marinelli, so another approach will have to do. Investing in an older star veteran is just the approach this team needs.

In Super Bowl LI, 36 year old Dwight Freeney shined. The veteran signed a one year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for a mere $1 million. Though he only had three sacks during the regular season, he terrorized Tom Brady all night.

I'm not opposed to the idea at the right price. I'd love to see Ware finish off his career back in Dallas as a situational player, again, for the right price. It would give him another shot to be on a team that could threaten to make a deep playoff run and it was give us some veteran presence on our Dline.

Freeney.

A guy a few here wanted and many suggested was too old, would hurt the progress of the young players. Ooof.

One thing to add to this, there were a few stories that Freeney proved invaluable as a mentor for some of their younger defensive players. Guess we didn't need that either.

I often wonder if this team would have gone further if we signed Dwight Freeney. I'm not opposed to bringing in any of those guys on the list, but think Ware has the highest ceiling to potential be a 10 sack guy if relatively healthy. The others will provide some pressure and veteran leadership but you're probably looking at a ceiling of 5 or 6 sacks. However, paired with ampremium draft pick may significantly upgrade the unit.

If they brought in an established veteran it would be Ware... He wouldn't get enough snaps for 10 sacks (neither would Freeney) but give him 300 snaps in passing situations and he could get a half-dozen sacks.

I have no problem going "old", but it if the player can't stay healthy, what's the use? Didn't Ware just have another back surgery? If you're going to bank on that, then cough up a good draft pick for a young, proven DE that can be around for years.....

I trust Will McClay's judgement on DL but he was always given a beer budget in the past so we got guys like Selvie and Mayowa. He will have a much bigger budget this year so we could see a starter signed, but depending on the health of DLaw and Crawford it may be a better fit to add a situational guy like Ware now and a 2nd or 3rd round edge rusher in the draft (which is very deep in them).

I called for Freeney all offseason....I believe Stasharoo was the other one that was all over him

Sydla was all over him. This is why I wouldn't mind bringing ware back. When he's on the field he is still a beast

McClay and Stephen are going to have to tie Jerry down from keeping him from reuniting with Ware.

The good press, the filling of a need and reuniting with one of his favorite players will be too much. Ask Von Miller how important Ware was to his development.

I know. I wanted Freeney. Some said it was a terrible idea because of his age, but he could have helped this team win. This season I want to at least look at Julius Peppers. Bring him in for a workout at least.

I don't really care if we bring in an older player or not butas long as we're going to keep Marinelli I just want somebody else to call the defense on game day.

I'd rather have the pressure guy over the sack guy. I think Freeney was always known for being around the QB.

Freeney wasn't the reason the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl. Not even close. He may have been a calming presence on the sidelines, but nothing more. Let's not make this bigger than it really is.

I'm all about getting the right mix of veterans and younger players, but not ancient. And no, I don't think Ware would help much either. Go get War Daddy Pierre-Paul!

Ideally, I'd like to see one highly capable vet and at least one promising DE be acquired by the Cowboys in the offseason and draft.

We aren't signing any high price d lineman.

Crawford
Irving
Tapper
Thornton
Collins
Lawrence
Mayowa

That leaves 2-3 spots open. One of the spots if not two needs to be filled with def tackles leaving one end position available which should be filled with a rookie not an old vet.

Calais Campbell is a 3-4 player
JPP is slowly breaking down too much money
Addison one year wonder?
Chandler jones franchise tag
Everyone else is average
Ingram is the only guy worth a big payday but it seems fans just want to pay anybody with a name just because of the first half vs Green Bay. When Rod brought the corners up and brought pressure we were fine. Coaching is the main issue. We need 3 new dlineman and they all need to be rookies imo.
