Dallas is a good team, but 'just good' isn't good enough when you are striving for the playoffs.
We play pretty good football each game, but not good enough to beat good teams.
There are moments in each game that good teams fall short and playoff teams don't.
Examples:
Your team is at home, and you take the opening KO back to near midfield, .. playoff teams seize the momentum, they set the tone by taking it down and scoring 7.
Dallas didn't.
(they haven't scored 7 on an opening drive all season, have they?)
When you have the ball on the 1 yd line on 2nd down, playoff teams punch it in on 2nd down, 3rd down, or 4th.
Dallas didn't.
When you create a turnover, playoffs teams make the other team pay by turning it into points.
Dallas didn't.
When you line up on the 25 yd line for a 42 yard FG attempt, playoff teams make that FG. They get points
Dallas didn't.
These type of plays are the difference between just being a good team and being a playoff team.
Yes, it was good that we ran the opening KO back to midfild, .. yes, it was good that we drove the ball to the SD 1 yrd line, .. yes it was good that we created a TO with an INT, .. yes it was good that we drove the ball down into FG range.
All of these are good, but playoff teams finish, and capatilize on these type of opportunities.
Dallas doesn't. It seems to happens every game.
That is why we play good enough to keep every fan hungry and excited, but not good enough to beat the good teams and qualify for the playoffs.
If Dallas want to take it to the next level, they need to realize these opportunities when they present themselves during games, .. and then go and finish!
