Here's my shot. I love DBs. You should too.

Let me preclude this by saying that I think we add a new RT in free agency (Jermon Bushrod, Tyson Clabo, Matt Light, Jeremy Trueblood....or Pat McQuistan!)

Round 1
(via Trade) - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU. Peterson is the best defensive back, let alone cornerback in this draft, and the best probably since Charles Woodson. If he gets to #5 or #6, I would trade up for him immediately. He gives you longevity at the position for the next 10 years, and dominant longevity at that. Replaces Terence Newman who moves to FS, and forces Mike Jenkins to get better.

Round 2
Stefen Wisniewski, G/C, Penn State. Wisniewski is likely the best interior lineman in this draft. He also might not have to start from day 1. If I'm Dallas, I release Leonard Davis and start Montrae Holland at RG. Wisniewski can sit and learn, and be ready to step in if either Holland or Gurode go down with either a phyiscal or a pride injury. Again, good enough to start day 1, but won't have to.

Round 3
Pick Traded to Cleveland to move up to get Patrick Peterson.

Round 4
Deunta Williams, S, UNC. Probably the best safety in this draft before his injury, and in my opinion still the best. Falls down to round 4 and becomes the biggest steal of the draft, being ready to start at SS day 1 alongside Newman at FS after Sensabaugh is able to find a job in Houston playing for Wade.

(via Trade) Ras-I Dowling, CB, UVA. Underrated cornerback out of Virginia, Dowling gives us a much better nickel option than Orlando Scandrick. Great in zone coverage, good in man coverage, and an able and willing tackler, Dowling has the skills to eventually push Jenkins for the starting job opposite Peterson. We'll trade up from the 5th round to snag Dowling, another value pick at this point in the draft.

Round 5
Pick traded to move up to get Ras-I Dowling.

Round 6
Cecil Shorts III, WR, Mount Union. Guy has Indianapolis Colts/New England Patriots/New Orleans Saints style WR written all over him - small, wiry, quick, good hands. That's why we grab him late. Think Patrick Crayton with more speed and more agility. Shorts allows Dez to focus on situational punts and playing WR, and eventually snakes Roy Williams' roster spot as our bonafide #3 after Williams is released next year at no cost to the cap.

Round 7
Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama. His family has front office ties, and after breaking a finger he nearly slides out of the draft. Hasn't shown much except an ability to hand the ball off the Ingram and Edwards and to throw it within range of Julio Jones, but he is a much better pro prospect than McGee, who ends up on the practice squad this year, or outright cut. McElroy could possibly become a starter for Dallas 5 to 6 years down the road, but we'll see.

UDFAs
Shiloh Keo, S, Idaho
Buster Skrine, CB, UT-Chattanooga
Anthony Sherman, FB, Connecticut
Bryant Browning, OG, Ohio State
Joe Torchia, TE, Virginia

I think we would have to give more then a 3rd to move up that much, but otherwise I like it

Pick #6 in the draft is worth 1600 points.

Our #9 position picks in the 1st/3rd are worth 1350+225 = 1575.

We can throw in a future 5th rounder.

I wouldn't trade away our sixth to move up 3 spots for Peterson.

I would prefer to sit back and grab Tyron Smith and keep our second and third round picks.

btw, these mock draft thread titles are very NY Post.

Did that 4.32 40-time get you fired up?

He's not as impressive in the real drills though. Looks a bit tight.
Still, he is a playmaker even if he does end up at saftey.

After watching Buster Skrine in drills I want to amend my mock draft and stick him in the 4th or 5th round.

I'd have to do more research on how to keep both the trade up for Ras-I Dowling and the 5th rounder to spend on Skrine (probably have to do with it with some future picks moving around), but I really like Skrine. He's like a more fluid, better running, faster, Scandrick. Have to see him in camp to see how he tackles, though his youtube highlight (I know) is pretty good.

Did you all see his footwork in drills? He's low, his backpedal is incredible, and he opens his hips to turn and run like they're made out of water.

I don't see how he's a better pro prospect than McGee. From the looks of him, McElroy has back-up at best written all over him. There's nothing wrong with developing into a solid back-up, but if I'm going to groom a QB I'd want him to at least have the potential to one day be an NFL starter. Don't know if McGee is that, but he's shown a little potential and probably should have gotten his shot earlier. If I'm going QB in the draft, it'd be a toolsy guy that needs refinement, ala Kaepernick/Locker/Ponder.

Personally I think he is a backup only (GM). But the good thing about him is he is a hard worker who is very smart. Meaning he would be good as a backup because he can learn the offense quickly without getting the number of reps others will have. He is not going to wow anyone with his arm but at the same time it is not a noodle arm.

I like other QBs if we are going to sit someone and hope for the best in the future. I would rather get someone that has the natural arm strength and some other athletic abilities but really needs to sit and learn for a few years.

But that is just me.:)

I sense that this may be the start of a man-crush.:laugh1: You love the DBs as much as I love the OL.

I want Skrine more then ras

Since the first several picks are full of win and no-brainers Im going to use my time to rag on Greg McElroy who is hot garbage.

No I dont want to draft a QB in the 4th round whos looked fine then cut him two years later to make room for someone who cant throw but their dad has(had?) ties to our FO. What is the fascination w/ this future insurance salesman?

Also McElroy was seen on ESPN's 1st take

Popped.....a....woo-dddyyyyyyy.

Only pick I'm Meh about is Peterson. Go dline first. Especially cause we picked Deunta and Dowling.
