speed in terms of 10 yard split, not 40.
i just think a bull rush is less dependable than rushing a race if your speed is just faster by a little.
to me a bull rush depends too much on hand-to-hand combat where the bear may get you or you may get the bear.
Gotcha.

Your logic seems sound, but in the NFL defensive ends are expected to use everything. In today's game, you can't get by on one move...you have to go through a whole catalogue of moves, otherwise all your doing is giving the opposition additional reps at shutting you down. Football is a science at this point.

With all of that said, situation really dictates what moves are ideal based on gap responsibility and rather or not the play calls for a stunt.

Lastly, there are several techniques.

A good run down at this link:

You may already know all of that so the last thing I will point out is the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If the defender can swim past or put the ot on skates, that would be faster then going around.

Salute.

i understand a bit about gaps.
i think we both understand the tradeoffs.

i just remember, if you replaced your sparrow with a woodpecker, your feelings might be different :lmao:

I bet Taco is faster than nearly ever

I bet Taco is faster than nearly every OT in the NFL.

However, unlike smaller, quicker DE's, I bet his arm length is comparable to most OT's... and his strength will be much closer to their's.

Like J said, you need multiple ways of defeating the OT. With Charlton you have that possibility because he's not just fast... he has great length and strength.

Fast guys who do t do anything else almost always just get pushed back beyond the QB on their speed rushes.

Taco was a good choice. Very good for the bottom of round 1.

I grew up feeding ants to spiders, grasshoppers to praying mantis', hunting small game and deer. That's all changed over time. I've gotten to the point now that I'll stop to move a turtle off the road or shoo a bug out of the house rather than kill it. Its getting kinda weird, actually. o_O

I think I'm turning into a Jainist and practicing ahimsa..... oh, except towards Eagles fans ... or anybody else who pisses me off....:D
So I'm not the only one that does that...good on you, bro!

I did the same until I read the story of the Buddhist monk and a scorpion. The monk would pick the scorpion out of the water to save it and the scorpion would sting him every time. Finally, another monk asked him why he bothered and the monk replied:

“Because it is his nature to sting, and my nature to save. Don’t forget brother, soon either I’ll stop feeling the pain of the sting and he will be saved, or he will stop being afraid and be saved.’ Compassion cannot be stopped so easily."

I don't kill anything anymore and practice rescuing and saving instead.
