Today’s mock draft from PFN

I think when you look around the league, finding some depth at LB on the cheap in FA isn't that hard. I'd rather use premium picks (which I consider Top 90) on guys that can potentially make immediate impacts. It's unlikely that both those LBs would see significant time in this defense.

In year one? Likely not. But this is about more than year one.

PS - stash, I am with you on Collins to LG. If they leave him at RT, fine. Maybe how FA and the draft shakes out dictates what happens. For example, if you end up with a Zion Johnson in the 2nd or Green in the first, then there is your LG and Collins stays outside.

And Steele sits on the bench until Smith gets hurt again. And you used a premium draft pick to keep him there. A terrible use of resources in my opinion.

My own opinion is to make pass rusher the top priority.
  1. Get out of the awful Lawrence contract as soon as possible
  2. Get more production from the pass rush and a better return on investment
I would actually be OK with moving on from BOTH Lawrence and Gregory. I don’t either us irreplaceable nor do I think either one’s pass rush production is worth their cost.

Line that up with a draft deep at the position and that’s my thinking and motivation.

I also place linebacker higher on the list than done others due to our current defensive coordinator and his multiple style of defense.

You have Parsons. You have Cox who they apparently were high on before the injury. We play a lot of nickel defense which means only two LBs on the field at any one time. I just don't see the value in two of our top three picks being LBs given other issues.

I recall that both Smith and Vander Esch were quite involved to start the year last season. Both are or will be gone so I think two replacements are needed. I don’t expect the overpriced disappointment Keanu Neal back either.

  • 24. Jermaine Johnson ED Florida State
  • 56. Chad Muma LB Wyoming
  • 88. Quay Walker LB Georgia
  • 128. Calvin Austin III WR Memphis
  • 167. Jamaree Salyer OG Georgia
  • 176. Bubba Bolden S Miami FL
  • 201. Dylan Parham OG Memphis
Calvin Austin is a favorite of mine in this draft and I really hope we get him.
