I was there. While everyone around me was cheering thinking we had just won the game I was hollering NO as I saw Leon moving towards the ball. If I had a snipers rile I could have stopped him before he got there . lol

Could you imagine this happening to us like week 17 for a win and you're in game? If something like that happened, then I'd KNOW the Cowboys really did sell their soul to the devil for those Super Bowls.

I took my newish girlfriend (now wife) to Thanksgiving at my grandparents in Fort Worth that year. She grew up in a sports-free household, we were all huge Cowboys fans. Thanksgiving dinner was eaten in total silence. She couldn't believe it.

The only thing I care about this event is what happened afterward which everyone (well at least the media) fails to mention. The Dolphins lost every game after that and missed the playoffs and the Cowboys won every game after that to repeat as Super Bowl champs. I know one person who mentions it all the time: Jimmy Johnson.

20 years? Unbelievable

I still get that frustrated feeling when I watch it lol

Imagine how Leon Lett must feel. He's only remembered for 2 plays that one and his fumble in the SB the year before.

Bill Bates had the best recollection in the America's Game for that season (I'm paraphrasing):

After the game, Leon got a lot of hate mail, but he got some support as well. One girl wrote, "Don't worry, Leon. People make mistakes all the time. Last year, in the Super Bowl, some guy held the ball down low and allowed another player to knock it away, and prevent him from scoring. So, see, everyone makes mistakes.

Of course, it was the same guy!!!

That's the only game we lost all season with Aikman and Emmitt on the field.

I watched that game when I was away from family. It was my first Thanksgiving away from my family, in fact. I'll never forget how strange it was, eating different food, being surrounded by different people who were cheering the fact that the Cowboys lost. Surreal, and hard to believe it's been 20 years. Since then, I've lived in another country where Thanksgiving isn't observed and I actually had to work that day and missed the game. But that Thanksgiving is still the strangest.

I remember going home after work and watching the game on my VCR. My parents were out but got home just as we blocked the kick. My mom had watched the game so she knew what happened. She saw me jumping up and down at the block but said, just watch and then the big goof kicks the ball etc. I was like super choked but it was the last game they lost that year.

Leon must feel like that ski jumper who was known for decades as the agony of defeat on Wide World of Sports. The guy was probably a real good ski jumper who made hundreds of great jumps but it's the one real bad one that everyone remembers because it was seen by so many.

Vinko Bogataj. He was asked to appear at the Wide World of Sports 20th Anniversary celebration, where Muhammad Ali asked him for his autograph.
