Illustrates the fact that some people want to rush to some premature evaluation of what will happen. People here were already beginning the coronation of the Patriots as Super Bowl champions for the fourth time in six years. It shows how "ESPN-ized" sports culture has become in an era when we have ESPN analysts, fans, etc declaring so and so the best team in the AFC/NFC in Week 3.

There also is a sort of deterministic frame of mind that since certain events have occurred in the recent past, that these trends will continue. One of the lessons I have learned as a fan of the NFL for 19 seasons(where I got up every Sunday morning to watch the games)is that the NFL, like life, history, etc is no such thing.

This relates, of course, to our Cowboys as well. When we are losing in a game there is no shortage of fans rushing to proclaim our loss. Never mind that it's a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter or whatever, people feel the need to rush to judgement. Most recently we have people citing Parcells' 34-32 record as an indication that he cannot get this team to a championship level. I recall people saying similar things about Peyton, saying he'll never win the big one (I'm pretty sure vanquishing his career-long nemesis today qualifies) Anyway, the point is we just don't know.

Look at the teams in the NFC. They are not heads and shoulders above us. We beat the AFC champions. Something the Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Eagles Giants and Chiefs were unable to accomplish No small feat, I assure you.We make the right adjustments this offseason and with a fair amount of good fortune we may very well a year from now be preparing for an appearance in the Super Bowl. With BP as coach.

Got me on this one...I thought this game was over at 21-3.

But then again...I didn't stop watching the game...just in case.

Nice post. (the whole thing) However, it very well may not happen with Bill at the helm. (ever again) An argument can be made for both sides. There's no surprise which side I am on. I'll gladly disappear next year if it means the Boys are in the big dance. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

I guess that's my whole point. The beautiful thing about the NFL is that nothing is ever really set in stone. We may very well finish 9-7, one and done next year. We may have a season for the ages. I'm ready to just enjoy the journey and worry about the destination when we get there.

After 4 years we go 9-8 with the defense completely falling apart and the team collapsing in December (again) I don't see how anyone could draw any other conclusion.

at first i started arguing with this poster that the Bears were gonna beat the Pats and he otherwise. But then b4 halftime i said if they scored they still had a chance. So i didnt completely write off the Colts

Why are we drawing conclusions before a single game is even played? That's the problem many have while watching sports. Premature evaluations when nobody has access to all the pertinent information to make any sensible statement. What happened in previous seasons does not indicate what will happen the next. There are too many variables to make any definitive statement that approaches comprehension.

Sitting here and playing Nostardamus in January,a whole seven months before the season is pretty foolish.

The Colts earned that victory by simply taking it away from the Patriots just like they did last week to the Chargers....

The only real difference with Manning and the Colts this year as opposed to past playoff season is THEY DIDNT ABANDOM the RUN... and Addai seems to better than Edgerin already. If Manning had done what he had done in the past and thrown all day to catch up... the Pats would have won... give credit to Manning and coaches for sticking with the run. The Colts D is playing pretty energized lately.

That helps prove my point. people's past behavior and actions does not mean they will continue to do the same things. Determinism doesn't exist in the NFL.

He could be, although it's premature to say after one season.

You do realize nobody in the history of the NFL has come back from that deficit in a championship game until now??? So the odds were in favor of the Colts losing.

It one thing to predict before an event occurs it's another to say the Colts are going to lose because they are down 21-3 at the half.

I seem to remember Edge getting stuffed when he ran in playoff games... being a NON-factor

People always have and always will rush to judgment -- particularly in sporting events. It has nothing to do with ESPN.

ESPN is not the culprit, admittedly. It was just a convenient term since they propagate such a philosophy. It's a symptom of the problem and not a cause.

I would like to add that just because rushing to judgements has always occurred doesn't make it any more foolish

That's irrelevant. The game ends after the fourth quarter, not at halftime.

There have been many comebacks from an 18 point deficit. Just because there hasn't been one previously in a championship game before doesn't mean poeple should assume the game's over. Bottom line is, people were beginning the coronation of the Patriots as Super Bowl champs befoe they even qualified for the game.
