I have a feeling they’ll try to move up and won’t succeed. If they do a major move up it will probably be for a need. If they do a minor move up, it would be to snag a falling Dez Bryant. But in the end I see us waiting for four hours for the Cowboys to pick and then having them move out of the 1st round and we all have to wait until tomorrow.

How far does Bryant have to fall? Where is the line?

19-22 range. If the Patriots are at 22 and they don’t see anyone they love there they could move back. If they make the big move up, you heard San Francisco at 14 yesterday which I can’t confirm or Parcells at 12 … I do know they like Earl Thomas, but I don’t see Jerry giving up 3 high picks to move up.

People want to get someone to help the offense, but if you had a safety who could create turnovers you help the offense by getting them better field position. The defense looks good on paper, but they don’t get turnovers. That’s one of the reason the offense finishes 3rd in total offensive yards but no the points … they have to move the ball 80 yards on every drive to score. The problem is #27 is a never-never land for left tackles and safeties. There isn’t a left tackle there they like more than Doug Free. Maybe Taylor Mays is better than Alan Ball, but most of the safeties they like are considered 2nd rounders.

If they are sitting there at 27 without a Offensive Lienman . Could they take the best player available, stash him, and just see what happens?
That’s what I argued they should do in the paper today. Jerry makes a good point that sometimes players are graded so closely that you can still take the biggest need. But if you’re not taking the best player in the draft you end up with a roster full of non-best players. You could take a Odrick and people will say “Why do you need a DL”? Because next year you got 3 guys playing out their tenders and you’re not going to resign them all. So I don’t think the Cowboys should be too cute here, and don’t reach for a Shante Carver just because you convince yourself you have to have a defensive end. They took Scandrick when they were stacked at CB because he was the best player and he was a huge pick. They have huge questions at inside linebacker Brooking and Bradie are old, Bobby Carpenter and they don’t know what they got in Jason Williams. So they could look at a Weatherspoon there if he’s the best player available.

Is QB the only position to stay away from, because it would create a mess in the media? Everyone would start speculating about what kind of signal it is to Romo?

In 2007 I said they shoulda took Quinn, and if he doesn’t work out you can trade him like Steve Walsh. But they made a wise move trading for a future #1. But I think they are hoping a QB falls to them and move into the late 2nd and hopefully.

Predictions:

Archer: My guess is Jared Odrick and Tyson Alualu if they stay at 27.

Musers: If they can pull off Dez Bryant, that’s what I’m hoping for. It would be a coup to get that kind of talent with this pick. He wouldn’t have to come in and be asked to catch 80 passes next year as a rookie. We wouldn’t have to talk about Roy Williams anymore. But I predict some sort of best offensive lineman on the board.

Good stuff, I can see a move for a ILB, I dont see Dez Bryant dropping into range for Dallas to get a chance at him.

That seems to be the way things are headed.

If they move up, it's Dez.

If they move down, it's Allen.

If they stay put (and the corners and top OL are gone), it's Odrick or maybe Alualu.

Someone posted a glowing write up of Sean Lee the other day. I know we've shown interest in him.

I think my wish list is as follows:

1. Dez Bryant
2a. Mike Iupati
2b. Maukice Pouncey
4. Sean Lee
5. Tyson Alualu

I think you are smarter than some give you credit for Hole. ;)

Archer is an idiot. We got more yards then points that we should have because of TWO reasons: We SUCKED in the red zone and our kicker went south.

I'm pretty much the smartest guy I know. And most good lookingest as well.

What would taking a QB do other than send a signal to McGee? It is not like we are talking taking one in the first couple of rounds.

We looked at Jonathan Crompton in a sneaky way last week. That would be a nice message to send to McGee, but I doubt Romo could or should care.

To me, taking the player and hanging onto them is not exactly how it should be done. As many times as the Packers took QBs and developed and then traded them, the simple idea is to always have a young developmental on your roster to groom. The Walsh circumstance was not born out of having trade value, it was born out of the fact Johnson was not sold yet on Aikman and wanted a familiar face.

Archer: My guess is Jared Odrick and Tyson Alualu if they stay at 27.

I don't think Odrick makes it, but I think the Alualu idea is very realistic. If we want him that is where he will have to be drafted unless we nudge down just a few spots into the top quarter of round two.

Don't draft second round DE's for the 3-4 in round 1.

Go LB, CB, S, or OG.

Personally I think witherspoon and iupati will be available at 27...I think Mays will be gone.

I was under the impression they meant in the first round. In other words, suggesting we could literally take any position except QB.

I just threw up in my mouth.

Vol fan here. Just say no to Crompton.

We had a lot of drives that stalled out in the deadzone between the opponents 30 and 40 yard line, due to a penalty or negative run or dropped pass to kill a drive. We then either had to pooch punt, kick a low probability field goal of 50+ or go for it on 4th down. We faced more 4th downs from the 35 yard line than any team I can ever remember. It's highly unlikely that you have an 8-11 consecutive play drive of flawless football.

I never paid a lot of attention to him honestly, but he looked like he had the tools against Alabama. But I do know he received a lot of attention from teams because he responded well in Kiffin's offense. I think he's a better prospect than Ainge was.

Listen, I'm no scout, nor do I claim to be.

My thoughts on Crompton are he's an okay QB if he rolls out of the pocket and has limited reads. Otherwise, he's utterly useless. Not very heady, not very accurate, and does not make the best decisions.

Kiffin did a great job of masking a lot of his warts.

From what I've seen of Crompton the past few years, the idea that he has any . . . ANY future in the NFL is completely laughable in my opinion.

Edit: You're right about the Alabama game though, he played well there. In fact, I remember one of the announcers said during the game something to the effect that Crompton was playing like a top 10 draft pick.

Then I just say no to staying at #27.

This fan would be almost as pissed with a 3-4 DE at 27 as I would with drafting Taylor Mays.

Why? If the Cowboys get Odrick I would be extremely happy. I don't think he will be as good as Ratliff, but I think he will be better than Igor and Spears ever were.
