Jason felt constricted that he couldn’t do everything he wanted to do because he wasn’t the head coach. He doesn’t have constraints now. He’s a big chain of command guy and believes in the process, we’ll see if he makes changes. I believe he will.

We the media were actually breaking the news to players about the coaching change. Garrett hasn’t addressed the players yet. There have been a lot of reports going around that a lot of the players don’t like Jason Garrett or that the defensive players feel like they’re being made the scapegoats, well you know what? A lot of the players didn’t like Wade Phillips either. Jason Garrett made it pretty clear in his press conference that he doesn’t care what the players think about him, he’s only concerned about beating the Giants. There has been too much worrying about the players feelings around here. This “Oh we got to keep him a starter, because he’s always been a starter” stuff. Jason Garrett has to show he’s a leader, not just a manager. He has to put his stamp on here Wednesday from the very first practice.

Garrett will probably change practices, but they’ve changed the way they practice so many times this year that the players probably don’t know they’re even doing anymore. There’s only so many ways you can practice. I think he’ll have a more uptempo practice that he will let players know he means business.

I’ve never seen Jerry so broken down as he was yesterday. You would ask him a question and he would say “That’s a good question” and then not answer the question. He looked disgusted after the game, and now yesterday it looks like he’s wondering if he has to change the way he operates. If this team goes 1-15, how can he say to the fans “We’re going to keep the same organizational structure we have, because it will work if we just tweak a few things”.

Jerry didn’t put a specific goal on what he wants to achieve under Garrett. There was no expected win total. He wants “ extraordinary effort”. I think if there is a fire and competitiveness in the team that would be a good sign for Garrett. There is nothing in Jason’s contract that says he’s the 2011 head coach, so even if Jerry wants to keep him as the HC he still has to go through the Rooney Rule procedures.

Unless Garrett finishes 8-0, doesn’t it all depend on what Cowher or Gruden say? If they campaign for the job, doesn’t Jerry pretty much have to take them? I don’t think it will be Gruden, because this team needs a coach who is strong with personnel ability and he showed in Tampa Bay that he’s not good with personnel evaluation. Cowher brings in the Pittsburgh organizational philosophy. But I have a feeling Jerry really wants Garrett to be the guy, and that at one point he envisioned Jason Garrett being his head coach for many, many, many years.

I think Jerry is stretched too thin with running the stadium and promoting boxing fights to also fit in GM duties. Football might be at the top of his list, but it’s probably not his priority every single day. He’ll say that it’s the way he’s always done it, but look at the results. I think the biggest thing people can hope for is bringing in a guy like Cowher and hope he does what Parcells did and bring an entire organizational philosophy and blueprint with him on how to run an organization.

That's my biggest problem with Jerry. Guys like Kevin Colbert, Pioli, Bill Polian, spend 24/7 on how to improve their football team. I think Jerry means well, he wants to win badly, but he's stretched too thin.

The focus has to be on football all the time.

Football makes more money than boxing, so at the end of the day, football is Jerry's #1 priority. This season is dead regardless of what JG does. Next year, tickets will sell, jersey's will sell...regardless of who the coach is. They are still the Dallas Cowboys and will always have a following.

I think we are going to be more competitive. but the next four games are against Giants, Detroit, Saints, Philly, Indy.

the only one we have a chance of winning is Detroit. and I think we will find a way to lose that one too. at this point I am hoping. if the season is lost the only thing we have to look forward to is the draft.

with jason, he will probably keep most of the staff and they are half the problem as well. we all blamed Wade for his lack of leadership. deservedly so. but the assistant coaches are a problem too.

That was Wade's downfall.

If this seasons failures bring this result, I could almost live with it.

I think having a coach who recognizes talent is going to be very important. Maybe not so much with the draft because there are so many things a coach needs to worrry about. But I think uncovering talent and then developing that talent is a very important skill.

Regarding the draft, I have absolutely no confidence in this front office right now. I will need to be convinced they can do the job. Every team misses in the draft and every team has some hits but right now I have very little confidence in the front office as currently constructed.

Scapegoats? You cannot stop anybody! You suck and you're crying about being made scapegoats? Man up! Do something about it. Make a tackle. Cover somebody. Quit looking for somebody else to step up!

Good. I hope it is really sinking in. He's a good person (as Wade was) who means well and does many good things overall. But he cannot and should not be all things to all people. At this point, he's 'jack of all trades, master of none'. And it's hurting this franchise.

That sure is my most fervent hope. I think Cowher is the only guy who can turn it around while many of these players are still here.

Absolutely the most encouraging thing about this piece from Archer and yesterdays PC.

It may be at the top of his list, but being a GM is not Jerry's 24/7 hour a day job like it is with a Bill Polian or Scott Pioli.

We'll see how it plays out.

There's probably a half dozen players who should be replaced right now.

Is it all hot air? We'll see soon enough.

That's the crux of it.

What a disgusting mess. What Parcells said when he left was so on the money.

The stadium is the number one thing on his list.

Empty seats - even if they're sold - don't buy beer, overpriced hot dogs, parking passes, programs, etc.

This is still a great situation. There are any number of guys who could bounce back and have us be very competitive next year. Hopefully Garrett's one of them and we don't have to resort to past-their-prime AFC castoffs.

I think Archer's off by a wide margin in this piece. Jerry can very easily overlook John Gruden wanting this job. And if Garrett coaches well, he can overlook any other candidate, too. I also think the criticism of the front office is off-base. Everything's in question when you're 1-7, I guess, but I have a hard time criticizing the job the GM has done in recent years. I also give the scouting department high marks in their current incarnation.
