5) Scott Linehan, Dallas Cowboys

Credit Linehan for checking his ego at the door to give the Cowboys the best opportunity to win in 2014. The passing guru made a philosophical shift, adopting a run-first approach to help Dallas pound opponents behind a massive offensive line and a talented, one-cut runner (DeMarco Murray). It's telling that, even with the aerial attack on the back burner, Tony Romo led the NFL in completion percentage (69.9) and passer rating (113.2), with Dez Bryant snaring a league-best 16 touchdown receptions. Given the discipline and adaptability Linehan has shown in Dallas, the savvy play-caller deserves a spot on this list.

The team laid an adaptable standard for how to use it's offense. The team challenges opponents at the line of scrimmage and on deep/vertical pass routes. This should allow for additional skill sets to be grown for a large group of 'support' types at receiver/tight ends/and running back.

All that will put opponent linebackers on flat feet.

I'd like to see this offense sorta mirror the 'greatest show on turf' offense.

Take it to 'em from all over the field. I think we have the athletes to do it.

JMO, of course.

SMH. Perhaps it shouldn't be, but it is really annoying seeing these national nfl analyst call Linehan a passing guru. Clearly, this guy did not do his research. Linehan, quite simply, calls plays that exercise the strength of the team he is on, whatever that may be. In Detroit, that was the passing game. But if you look at his entire career as an offensive playcaller, he has made the most of every situation on the offensive side of the ball and is a big believer in getting the ball into his playmakers hands, putting them in the best possible situation to execute. Last year, that was Dez and Demarco. The year before it was Megatron and getting the ball to Reggie Bush in space. If you care to do the research, you will see that is pretty much what he does at every stop.
