Here's a rundown of players that have been connected to the Cowboys:

Quarterback (grade)

1. Carson Wentz (91)
2. Jared Goff (91)
3. Paxton Lynch (86)
4. Connor Cook (84)
5. Christian Hackenberg (82)
6. Jacoby Brissett (77)
8. Dak Prescott (59)

Running back

1. Ezekiel Elliott (92)
2. Derrick Henry (80)
6. Paul Perkins (70)
8. C.J. Prosise (60)
9. Kenyan Drake (58)

Defensive ends

1. Joey Bosa (96)
2. DeForest Buckner (94)
3. Shaq Lawson (90)
4. Kevin Dodd (86)

Outside linebacker

1. Myles Jack (92)
7. Noah Spence (80)

Cornerback

1. Jalen Ramsey (93)
2. Vernon Hargreaves (91)

Safety

2. Karl Joseph (88)

Bosa is McShay's highest rated player among all draft-eligible players. That's good news for Cowboys fans, as Bosa is the player that the majority of mock drafts in our mock draft trackerhave going to the Cowboys.

Todd, Todd, Todd, Todd!!!!!

McShay is not the be all and end all. Kiper sucks but even he's better than McShay.

McShay is one of the last pundits I look to for validation. He is one of the more "consensus" draftniks out there.

But I think their ratings are very similar this year.
What there do you very strongly disagree with?

Like Alex said, the ESPN and NFL.com guys (McShay, Kiper, Brooks, Jeremiah, Mayock, etc.) are notorious for creating a narrative and falling in love with it. It's almost incestuous how they reinforce each other so if one is wrong they are all wrong and vice versa. Most drafts do not even fall how the draft pundits set it up.

There is a reason for that. Even guys like Brugler and Rang are starting to tow the line on the consensus picks unfortunately.

I understand.
I was asking what specifically he had an issue with.
Sounds like you're saying that it's more the theme in general.

If that's the case, what analyst or scout does stand out as someone who is different and yet right as often or more on that McShay or Kiper?
Just curious.

I mean, the drafts actually DO fall somewhat in line with what these guys say with excpetion of the 2-3 "surprises" each year in the 1st round.
It's impossible to know exactly how it'll fall....even in the 1st.
After that, all drafts fall apart.

The first round especially top 3-5 is the easiest to predict, it's after that round that the pundits always critically grade the NFL teams because they do not fall in line with their own prejudiced evaluations.

To me guys like McShay and Mayock are typical talking heads who just love their own voices. Kiper gets some respect from me because he came up the hard way and had to fight to get where he is but he basically is the father of the group think draft evaluators at ESPN.

I like Brugler better than most, he does project Bosa to Dallas like all most every other draft pundit but for different reasons. Jack is his second ranked best D prospect but has injury questions and requires the right fit. His take on Jack is that the guy will be an immediate impact playmaker on right team, skills are off charts. But Bosa is steady and will provide almost any team consistency if not stellar play. Bosa will not be a JJ Watt or Von Miller type rusher.

Brugler does not consider Bosa to be the 4th best player in draft like the other pundits.

I separate McShay from practically all of them as he is about as generic as you can get. If you took an aggregate sample of player rankings, it would probably come pretty close to what he generates. Rarely does he demonstrated being bullish or down on a prospect to the point it makes you wonder.

I think most pundits rank Bosa HIGHER that 4th best prospect (many have him top 3) but most say he'll go around 4th in the actual draft due to QBs being picked early.

I like several better than Bosa but I do think he'll be a Pro Bowl player, just not a 15 sack guy every year.

McShay has him as the best player (but maybe not long term)
ScoutsInc has him as the best
DraftScout has him 3rd best
Kiper has him 3rd best
Daniel Jeremiah has him 4th best
Rang has him 4th best
etc

The consensus picks are usually because they are the best players.. So you're gunna pick a different guy just because all the "gurus" chose the same one? Haha

Bosa can rush the passer. But he can always stop the run at a high level too. We were gashed all season last year. Our passing defense was actually way better last season by the numbers. I know teams just ran because they were up most the time but we shouldn't get gashed on every game.
