Tom Brady considered playing this year

He was showing signs in his last couple of years that the undefeated foe Father Time was catching up to him
So I doubt he would be all that now
now better than a fair number of current starters? Likely
anywhere near what he was? Doubtful

I never understood why they had that rule. Especially if you're playing for the team you have a stake in. What's the problem?
I would imagine conflict of interest regarding salary cap implications where a team could circumvent it via other financial avenues. What if Brady did play and got traded to another team? It would be a logistical mess. I don’t care if a player could do this but I do see the other side.

It protects the owners from players trying to hold them hostage for an interest in the team. Follow the money.

If he wasn’t an owner, I think Denver would’ve made an attempt to get him after Nix went down.

They could just put a mic in his helmut, and he could call the game while playing.

Actually, why is it a conflict of interest for a person to be a player and part owner?
If he plays for a team besides the Raiders and then that team plays the Raiders, then his interests as part owner of the Raiders is for them to win and for the team he plays for to lose.
