The Green Bay Packers have made some significant changes along their coaching staff.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that offensive coordinator Tom Clements has been elevated to associate head coach and will assume play-calling duties, a task previously handled by coach Mike McCarthy. Wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett has been tabbed to replace Clements as offensive coordinator.

WDUZ-FM in Green Bay first reported the moves.

If they were smart, they would "demote" him all the way.

He is a Super Bowl winning coach with teams that have had mediocre to subpar talent aside from Rodgers.

I'm shocked he is accepting having his play calling duties taken away.

Maybe there's something to the idea that HCs have a lot on their plates and that not having to call plays for one side of the ball or another is actually of benefit to the team. Maybe it's not all about who gets to take credit for what, and instead is about the most efficient way to share duties among talented people on the same staff.

I disagree that they have subpar talent aside from Rodgers (not to mention Rodgers is probably a top-3 QB in the league right now).

True, though Bill Walsh didn't give play calling duties away when he won 4 Super Bowls. He didn't even have an offensive coordinator.

He was a great play caller. It makes sense that they'd organize that team to it's strengths. That's all it's about. I'm not so sure most coaches in the league even want to call their own plays. Fans treat it like a badge of honor, but I'm not sure organizations see it that way. I'd bet it's a fun job to do when it's yours, but there's so much that a head coach has to do and do well. Putting play calling on that list as a requirement just isn't always reasonable.

That doesn't fit my agenda.......I strongly disagree

Yeah especially when I thought they meant "defensive" play calling duties (taken away) ...lol

They should have done this at halftime of the Seattle game.

I am wondering how many actually read the article.

Nothing in the article dictates that he is having his play calling taken away (for those that want to conflate this with the jason garrett argument where Jones said they did not want jason calling plays).

Nothing n the article dictates that he decided to quit calling plays on his own or the owner decided to have him quit calling plays...in order to concentrate on other aspects of the team (Defense and special teams)...Which would conflate to the Jones/Garrett argument some might want to use.

The article seems to indicate that he wondered why none of his OCs were getting job opportunities elsewhere and decided it was probably because they were not calling plays and other teams viewed them as OC in name only. Now...truth to that or not, I don't know. But I can tell already that people are already leaning to one argument or another concerning this HC not calling plays anymore to a Jason Garret/Jerry Jones/Scott Linehan argument and if the article is accurate it would seem that is a bad comparison to make for either sides arguments.

Just something to consider.

No! That would make too much sense.

where does it say that he is having the duties taken away. I believe if there was any other QB on the field then McCarthy would give it up. But he trusts Rodgers and Rodgers knows every facet of the offense and calls most of the plays anyway. The Detroit game a few years ago where Matt Flynn threw for 6 Tds was Aaron calling all the plays. No big deal here.

This isnt like other teams where management tells the coaches what to do. What happes on the field is all up to McCarthy. Not Ted Thompson or Mark Murphy.
