Tom Cruise 1st to Get Ducati Superbike

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Tom Cruise is the first on the list to get Ducati's newest motorcycle — a $72,500 superbike bristling with titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber technology that can scoot up to 200 mph.


Cruise is scheduled to take delivery of the Desmosedici RR at Beverly Hills Ducati this week. Only 1,500 of the red-and-white Moto GP racing replica motorcycles will be made and Cruise gets the first.


Michael Lock, chief of Cupertino-based Ducati North America, said the Desmosedici RR "is the impossible dream — made possible."


"We are delighted to be able to deliver the world's first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise, who is a well-known Ducati enthusiast," Lock said in a statement.

I grew up on rice rockets and hit 130 mph once. The entire bike was shaking violently and I could barely keep it under control. Scared me spitless.

I cannot fathom 200 mph on a bike, no matter how much technology/stability has advanced.

I predict he's going to kill himself on the thing. Seriously, nobody other than a pro should even be allowed to get on one of these. I don't care how much money they have or how delusional they may be.

And since he's the only one who can save someone if they're injured, will he be able to save himself?

Had a 92 Honda CBR600F2 that I hit about 140 on one time. No shaking other than me in the seat. Once I got going that fast I had to slow down and I was too scared to touch the brakes very hard so I released the gas and coasted for a mile or so down to speed.
